Leeds United are expected to have a busy summer as manager Paul Heckingbottom looks to turn the Yorkshire side into promotion contenders.

The Whites expected to be pushing for a top-six place this season, however they drastically fell away in the second half of the campaign and ended up finishing in the bottom half.

Many felt Leeds just didn't have enough quality in the squad with the club's recruitment in the past 12 months coming in for severe criticism from supporters.

Therefore, it's vital they bring in the right players in the coming months and they will be targeting new faces for several positions.

One of those will be in midfield and here we look at five players they should be targeting...

The Brentford midfielder is a classy player, capable of dictating the play from deep and has an excellent passing range.

Those are qualities Leeds are crying out for and even though the Bees have their own promotion ambitions, they've been known to sell their better players over the years so this could happen if Heckingbottom and the board go for it.

The QPR man would be a real creative link between the midfield and attack and again, that is something that Leeds need.

He has the ability to drive from deep, running at defenders and the likes of Samu Saiz and Pablo Hernandez would certainly benefit from Freeman supplying them.

The midfielder has spent the season on loan at Fulham but has had to settle for a bit-part role.

With his opportunities at Brighton also looking limited, Norwood will be looking for regular football next season and that could arrive at Elland Road.

Norwood has proven himself as a capable player at this level in the past, is good on the ball and would be a smart addition.

Leeds have been linked with the Hibs midfielder who would cost around £5m but that could still be a good deal for the Whites.

McGinn is a very competitive, strong midfielder and also is technically sound. His all-round game would be ideally suited to the Championship.

Another Hibs midfielder that Leeds should go for is McGeouch.

The 25-year old is out of contract in the summer and therefore would be more appealing to the Whites and he has real quality.

The former Celtic man is very good on the ball and could be an ideal partner for Adam Forshaw.
