Port Vale have recently confirmed the departure of manager John Askey after just under two years in charge of the League Two club.

Askey took charge of the club back in February 2019, and didn't get off to the best of starts, as he lost his opening four matches in charge of the Valiants.

He guided Port Vale to an eighth-place finish in the fourth-tier of English football last season, and hasn't coped much better in this year's campaign.

The Valiants are currently sat 17th in the League Two table after their opening 22 matches of the 2020/21 season, and the club's supporters will know that results simply have to improve in the near future.

Port Vale are winless in their last six league matches, and the incoming new manager will have to pick up much-needed points at the earliest of opportunities, as they look to pull themselves clear of the relegation zone this term.

We take a look at FIVE managers that Port Vale should be taking a look at as Askey's replacement for the second-half of this year's campaign.

Flitcroft's last spell in charge of a club was with Mansfield Town, where his time with them came to an end in May 2019.

This came after his side failed to win promotion into League One after being beaten by Newport County in their play-off semi-final.

Flitcroft has worked as an assistant manager with Bolton Wanderers recently, but could be tempted by a move to Port Vale, who will be looking to push themselves up the League Two table relatively quickly.

Heskey is yet to have a spell in management in his career, and has worked as a pundit in football since retiring from his playing days back in 2016.

He is the favourite to take charge at Vale Park as Askey's replacement, and it'll be interesting to see how he would cope in charge of a club.

Some might consider him as a risky appointment due to his lack of experience, but he could turn out to be a shrewd appointment if he can turn their poor run of form around.

Alexander has been out of work since October, after his time with Salford City reached a conclusion.

He has also managed both Fleetwood Town and Scunthorpe United in the past, and might feel as though he's the right manager to take Port Vale back into the hunt for promotion this term.

He has experience of managing at League Two level recently, and could prove to be a smart appointment by the Valiants.

Grayson has most recently worked in League One with Blackpool, but was relieved of his duties after a poor run of form back in February.

He's another manager that has worked in League Two before though, and could be tempted by a drop back into the fourth-tier to find work again.

Pugh has been placed in interim charge of Port Vale, and he'll be hoping he can turn their poor run of form around.

The former midfielder signed for Port Vale back in 2016 as a player, and this isn't the first time he has taken temporary charge of the club.

If he can impress in the matches he takes charge of, then he could well be in with a chance of being appointed as Askey's permanent replacement.
