The shock news of Friday came from Cardiff, and that manager Russell Slade had been moved to a new role at the club.

As a part of a re-structure in the club's coaching setup, he has now become the Head of Football, reporting directly to the club's CEO.

Slade joined the club in 2014 following their relegation from the Premier League, leading them to an 11th place finish. He backed up this season well too, only narrowly missing out on a play-off spot.

There is no doubt that the club will be targeting promotion next season, and they are in a good position to do that. However, the sooner the club appoints a new head coach, the sooner he can start planning for next season.

The club, at the time of writing, haven't yet released a statement regarding any potential new manager, but have confirmed that Slade will take charge of the club's final day encounter with Birmingham.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, is FIVE potential replacements for the Cardiff job......

Paul Jewell

Most well known for his disappointing spell in charge of Derby in the Premier League, Jewell has been out of work since leaving Ipswich Town in 2012.

However, the former Wigan player has had previous managerial success at Bradford and Sheffield Wednesday, as well as a seven year spell with the Latics.

It is believed that Jewell wants a return to management, and has popped up in the discussions regarding a few second tier jobs that are up for grabs this summer.

Quite whether Jewell is the right manager for Cardiff is unknown, but he could be a name in Vincent Tan's mind.

Nigel Pearson

With Leicester bottom of the table in April, Pearson was able to guide them to Premier League safety last season, before being dismissed due to off-the-field matters.

Leicester's fortunes have changed dramatically since, going on to win the very division they were fighting to stay in. Pearson has been out of a job since, but is being tipped for pretty much every job going in the second tier.

Having won the league with the Foxes in 2014, Pearson has plenty of experience at this level, and could well be the right man to see Cardiff go up to the top flight once more.

David Moyes

The former Manchester United boss is also out of work following his departure from Spanish club Real Sociedad, but has already said he is looking for the right job to get back into football with.

This could be it. At both Preston and Everton, he was given the chance to build a new squad, possibly what is needed in the Welsh capital. Moyes, if appointed, is likely to be given the chance to build his own squad of players, and would stand Cardiff in good stead to gain promotion.

It would be a wonderful signing if they could pull it off, but is David Moyes heading to Wales?

Tony Pulis

Tony Pulis' future at West Bromwich Albion is in doubt, admitting in his press conference on Friday he doesn't know how long he'll be at the club.

There's no shortage of clubs who will want to sign the 58-year old, and his experience includes many Football League clubs including Bournemouth, Gillingham, Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle amongst the the three top flight clubs he's managed.

Cardiff might be in that admiring pack, as he has proven he knows what it takes to be successful in the lower leagues.

Can he lead Cardiff back to the big time?

Quique Sanchez Flores

Potentially an outside bet for the job, Sanchez Flores has also been the subject of plenty of speculation regarding his future in recent months.

After an excellent start to life in the Premier League with Watford, their season has tailed off slightly, despite the Hornets getting to an FA Cup Semi-Final. Even so, he has earnt many plaudits and was many people's choice for manager of the season.

The Spaniard has plenty of managerial experience, with Getafe, Al-Ain of the UAE, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Valencia and the Real Madrid youth side all having employed him since the turn of the century.

With his future not set in stone, perhaps Tan should be looking towards the current Watford boss as their manager for next season.
