Gary Rowett has largely impressed the footballing arena during his brief tenure thus far in charge of Birmingham City, though a recent poor run of form has seen any hopes of making the play-offs all but end in a whimper.

Where they once were a tightly knit unit who were capable of grinding out some well earned results, the former Burton Albion coach was slowly watched his side transform into one that looks suspect in both defence and attack.

Not really a good mix for a football team.

While he should rightly be praised for the excellent work he has done on the training field, the 42-year old has somewhat struggled to translate that fine work into matter regarding transfers.

January additions Will Buckley and Ryan Shotton have not worked out as hoped, while the less said about the £2m shelled out on Diego Fabbrini the better.

So, moving forward, perhaps the Blues should look to dip into the loan market. Clearly a good coach, Rowett would be an attractive name for bigger clubs to loan players out to in an effort to improve their understanding of first-team football.

He's exactly the sort of training ground coach a club like Manchester United should be aiming to send their emerging talent to. The Red Devils are in desperate need of quick fixes, but cannot risk allowing their rising young stars to be left out in the cold.

While football rarely ever works out so perfectly, it would undoubtedly be an arrangement that works for all parties involved.

Will Keane

Recalled from a loan spell from Preston North End to help combat the mounting injury crisis at Old Trafford a few months ago, Will Keane has not been afforded much in the way of game time ever since. As expected.

However, a rousing FIVE goal performance for the under-21 squad no doubt went some way into reminding onlookers about his real potential.

With the Blues struggling for goals of late, lining up a move for the 23-year old (who no doubt would have been boosted with his time back training with stars such as Anthony Martial) could be the perfect remedy.

Regan Poole

Regan Poole

Paul Robinson has never been noted for his jet heeled pace, but his lumbering performances of late have been borderline comical.

There's been a desperate need to find a decent partner for Michael Morrison for over a year now and one could be plying his trade in the Red Devils' youth ranks in the shape of Regan Poole.

The 17-year old Welshman is elegant on the ball and could develop into the sort of 'Rolls Royce' defender John Stones is lauded for being (when at his best) these days.

A stint in the second tier may toughen the former Newport County prodigy up, making him an all-round defender of truly immense potential.

Nick Powell

Nick Powell

Currently on loan at Hull City, Nick Powell has never hit the heights expected of him when he joined the Manchester giants as a promising teenager from Crewe.

Still, at 22 years of age, it's important not to write the England under-21 international off just yet. On his day, he can produce the sort of magic that made him such a hot property in the first place.

Should he able to overcome his injury problems, a talented young manager like Rowett could be exactly the sort of man to prize the best out of him.

Not quite a loan move as the player will be out of contract in the summer, but certainly one to consider.

Paddy McNair

Few would have thought Paddy McNair would have racked up so many appearances during the Louis van Gaal era, though that is largely indicative of the injury nightmare the Dutch boss has had to contend with.

Still, the Northern Irishman is an accomplished enough defender and would excel if made the staple of a backline in the Championship.

Likely to have suitors, his capture could prove to be quite a coup, though should definitely be looked into.

Brighton landed the highly rated James Wilson, which should serve as relative inspiration.

Joe Rothwell

Joe Rothwell

Joe Rothwell is the beating heart of Under-21 squad, though is never likely to break into the first-team ahead of the likes of Michael Carrick and Morgan Schneiderlin. Especially if Jose Mourinho takes the reins.

The 21-year old is a central midfielder in the old fashioned sense, just as likely to scrap for possession before taking a hold of the ball and surging forward with a powerful dribble to break behind enemy lines.

His arrival in the engine room would help prevent the Blues going out like a damp squib like they have done in recent months.
