With Sheffield United set to embark on a 6th season in League One, all eyes will be cast on new manager Chris Wilder and how he addresses the obvious needs of his squad.

Wilder has released 10 players, with many more expected to follow suit, and he will need to act sharply to try and bring in some quality and replace the many of the outgoing faces.

It is likely he will look to players currently in League One and Two, and try and use the Blades' status as a giant in the third tier to lure players to Bramall Lane in the hope of mounting a promotion push.

The Blades manager though has also admitted he is not averse to bringing in a few young players from top Premier League clubs, and he could do a lot worse than look at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have a history of producing excellent players through their youth ranks and it shows no sign of slowing, with Adnan Januzaj and James Wilson two of those to come through the academy in recent times.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor identifies FIVE Man United wonderkids Sheffield United should look to sign....

Ashley Fletcher

If United want to get a proven goalscorer and threat for League One, then trying to lure Fletcher back to South Yorkshire would be a great idea.

Fletcher impressed immensely on loan with Barnsley as the Tykes won promotion at Wembley with a 3-1 win over Millwall.

He is now highly sought after, but this should not detract the Blades and Chris Wilder from making a move for the striker. If they could land a player of his quality, it would really excite fans early doors during the transfer window, giving them a solid platform to build on going forward.

Joe Rothwell

At 21, Rothwell is getting to the stage in his career where he needs to be playing, and it might just be that this summer he moves on from Old Trafford.

Rothwell is a gifted midfield player, and someone who could slot right into the side down at Bramall Lane, adding competition for places and quality to the ranks in the middle of the park.

He spent a bit of last season on loan with Barnsley, and may well be open to another move to League One to try and enhance his career further.

Axel Tuanzebe

The big defender is being tipped for a bright future in the game, but with Jose Mourinho coming into the club and his record with young players, Tuanzebe may need to look elsewhere next season for first team football.

The 18-year-old from Congo was selected as captain when a first year scholar for the youth team, something the Man United coaching staff admitted had not happened since Gary Neville.

Highly rated, a loan move in the third tier of English football would do Tuanzebe no harm whatsoever.

James Weir

The 20-year-old midfielder is a calm yet tenacious midfielder player who could add a real bite to the midfield down at Bramall Lane.

Weir has flirted in and around the first team squad at Old Trafford after becoming a regular for the under-21 side last season and cementing his place as one of the highly thought of prospects at United.

The time could be here for him to move on though, and Sheffield United is a perfect fit for the young man from Preston.

Paddy McNair

It would be a real coup if it happened, but McNair has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford and is unlikely to play next season under Jose Mourinho.

However, he is a good defensive talent, and will no doubt be in demand should the Red Devils allow him to leave.

There is no reason Chris Wilder and the Blades should not test the water and throw their name in the hat for him. They need a defender who knows the game and reads it well, and McNair is just that.
