Leeds United are on course for a mid-table finish this season after what has been an up and down season both on and off the pitch.

They have struggled to produce consistent results,  as Steve Evans has tried to work his magic and get the team playing in a way that he knows will breed success.

At Leeds, the club has a rich history of producing young players who have gone on to make big splashes in the game.

Players such as Alan Smith, Harry Kewell, Lee Bowyer, and Jonathan Woodgate have all gone on to have successful careers, and Steve Evans will be hoping some of the current crop can follow suit.

Leeds have already allowed Sam Byram to leave this season, and Evans will be banking on his other young stars not following suit.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at FIVE Leeds United players who can become top stars next season.......

Lewis Cook

Already a top player and a regular in the starting line up, Cook is probably the cream of the crop at Elland Road as it stands.

At 19, he is still extremely young, but has attracted the attentions of Man United and Liverpool respectively, and Leeds fans will be desperate for him to stay.

Cook could do with adding more goals to his game, with only 1 this season in his 33 appearances, but the talent is there for all to see, and he looks certain to have an excellent career.

Alex Mowatt

mowattttt

Progress has slowed somewhat for Mowatt this season with a few niggling injuries and fitness worries getting in his way.

Steve Evans has also not always selected him, but Mowatt is still one of the most talented players in the Leeds squad.

The local lad is still only 21, but is approaching 100 appearances already for his club. He will be hoping to put this season behind him and rediscover his form of last season, which saw him score 9 goals for the whites.

Charlie Taylor

The 22-year-old defender is another one of the home grown contingent currently in the squad, and has impressed when he has played this season.

Last season, he was nominated for the young player of the year award and only missed out due to the exceptional form of Lewis Cook.

Taylor though is a solid performer, and next season could be a big one for him in his career development.

Lee Erwin

erwinnnn

The young Scot is now 21, and needs a big season next season if he is to make anything of his career.

The potential is there though, and if he gets the chance in the first team, then he could well be the man to fire the goals they need.

Erwin has been linked with a move away from the club on loan before the window shuts, and it may serve him well if he is to fulfil his undoubted potential next season.

Jack McKay

McKay only joined Leeds in January of this year, signing with his brother on a two-and- a-half year deal from Doncaster Rovers.

Still only 19, McKay could well make the step into the first team next season and if he hits the ground running, could impress.

He has still made less than 10 professional appearances though, so is a raw talent, but Evans must have seen something in the striker to go and get him in January.
