It has been a season of both frustration and delight for Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp in what is his third spell with the club.

Signed in the summer to score the goals the Blades had missed the season before in the hope of firing them to promotion, the Blades have stuttered and look set to fall short of the play off places, despite Sharp's 17 goals.

Sharp has once again proved himself in League One, following his prolific spell with Scunthorpe United upon leaving Sheffield the first time round.

A less fruitful spell followed upon his return to the Bramall Lane when he partnered James Beattie under Bryan Robson, before spells with Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton all delivering inconsistent form in the main.

Sharp's class though in the lower leagues cannot be questioned though, and it is a shame that the Blades have not quite found the ideal partner for him this season.

Alex Revell

Proven at League One level following a spell with Rotherham United, where he fired them to promotion with two goals in the play-off final, Revell has since spent time with Cardiff City and most recently on loan at MK Dons.

His sheer size and presence makes him a handful for any defender, and he would be a joy for Sharp to play next to.

Revell might not be the most prolific of goalscorers, but he is definitely the sort of foil who could benefit a smaller striker just like Sharp.

If United could manage to nab Revell, then fans would certainly see even more of Sharp than they already do.

Simon Cox

The Republic of Ireland striker has found himself out of favour with Reading this season, and it is no surprise to see him out of form.

However, Cox is certainly good enough to operate at League One level, and could provide the perfect partner for someone like Sharp.

Cox would simply need to rediscover the form which once saw him sought after by Premier League clubs - indeed he spent time with West Brom between 2009 and 2012 - and this experience could be crucial in League One with Sharp.

John Akinde

The big striker from Barnet has been on fire this season, contributing 14 goals and 8 assists for his team mates, catching the eye of plenty of scouts in the process.

At over six foot and with pace to boot, Akinde could be ideal up top next someone in smaller stature like Sharp.

Akinde could well be a wanted man in the summer, and would surely find it hard to resist a move to a club the size of Sheffield United.

He is definitely one to watch, and one that Sharp would revel playing up top with.

Leon Clarke

If you want a powerful striker who is guaranteed to bring goals in League One, then you can look no further than someone like Leon Clarke.

Clarke spent time with Sheffield Wednesday, but it is well known many United fans would love to see him at Bramall Lane if the chance arose.

He proved he could be an adequate partner when he played up top with Callum Wilson for Coventry City and, if he could replicate similar form alongside Sharp, then the Blades would have a real mouth-watering partnership on their hands.

Sergiu Bus

It might seem unlikely, but with cross-city rivals Wednesday having an abundance of attacking talent, the Blades could do far worse than make a move for Bus.

He signed with a big reputation, and when given the chance has looked solid in the main for the Owls. He has pace and power as well as excellent movement, and may well be the ideal partner for Sharp.

If Bus could find some of the form which saw the Owls pay the fee they did for him, he could be an excellent signing for United.

Playing with an experienced striker like Sharp would surely help Bus as well, and they could well develop an ideal partnership.
