The season is fast approaching and Marcelo Bielsa is running out of time to strengthen his squad.

Leeds have only made two loan signings this summer, bringing in Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman from Chelsea, and their squad looks light coming into the new campaign.

Bielsa knows that he needs another defender, another wing-back and another striker desperately, as well as adding competition for places all over the pitch.

Leeds could be in for a very busy final few weeks of the transfer window.

But their opening game is next Sunday, at 4:30pm against Stoke City at Elland Road.

This will be an incredibly tricky test first up and one that Bielsa will be relishing.

Although he has experimented with a few different formations in pre-sesaon, you expect that he'll return to his favoured 3-3-3-1 formation once he gets his right players in.

This could be his first ever Leeds XI in a competitive game.

Blackman is likely to start in goal ahead of Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

The Chelsea stopper impressed on loan at Sheffield United last season and will probably take the gloves for the opening few games at least.

Predominantly a midfielder, Forshaw could be moved into a back three given the current lack of options at centre-half.

The 26-year-old is vastly experienced and could carry the ball out of defence.

Jansson is a key figure for Leeds this season and he will need to be at his best for Bielsa's men.

The Sweden international is dominant in the air, no-nonsense with his tackling, a leader and commander at the back and a threat from set-pieces.

Many Leeds fans would like to see Cooper dropped but there are not many other options for Bielsa.

Until he brings in new centre-halves, the Scotsman will continue at left-centre-back.

It is a massive boost for Leeds to have Ayling back from injury.

The former Bristol City defender can get forward, is tough to beat defensively and he has already impressed in pre-season.

This position could also be occupied by Ronaldo Vieira or Lewis Baker but we think that Phillips will get the nod.

The 22-year-old is growing in maturity with each year he plays for Leeds.

What a signing this would be for the Whites!

Douglas, 28, netted five times and grabbed 14 assists from left-wing-back at Wolves last season; he is easily one of the best in the division at what he does.

Alioski might thrive in a Bielsa system with more attacking license, although there are question marks over his consistency still.

You can expect the Macedonia international to start on the right and be given free reign to cut inside and go for goal.

Hernandez was Leeds' best player last season and his creativity is vital for Bielsa.

The veteran Spaniard is so talented on the ball, offering goals and assists when sitting just behind the striker.

Saiz is another player who could thrive in this formation and get back to the form he showed at the start of last season.

The Spaniard scores goals for fun when he is in form and Bielsa will be hoping he hits the ground running this term.

Will Leeds sign a striker by next Sunday? At the moment, it doesn't look likely.

If they fail to bring someone in before the opening game against Stoke, Roofe will probably start at centre-forward.
