With Leeds United currently sitting 15th after 16 games ahead of the international break, the club will surely look to push on and try and gain some consistency with Steve Evans starting to implement his own ideas.

The January transfer window is approaching and it will be an important time for Evans to try and develop his own team, bringing in the players that he wants but also letting players go.

With Leeds' ownership still hanging in the balance, it would not be wise for the club to spend lots of money on transfers, should remarkably, a new owner want another new manager.

Here are FIVE current free agents that Leeds United should sign to help improve their squad and boost the Whites chances of reaching the play offs......

Marco Motta

Motta was released by Watford last season following promotion to the Premier League.

He was signed from Juventus clearly indicating he has some pedigree.

The right back has also made an international appearance for Italy proving he has quality.

The 29-year-old now has Championship experience and despite being released, had a decent spell for the Hornets, showing both attacking and defensive qualities from full-back.

Motta would be a good addition to the Leeds squad giving competition for places in the full-back area.

Leon Best

No doubt it would be a bit of a risk, but on a free transfer it could prove to be a good signing.

Best struggled throughout his time at Blackburn which led to him getting released in the summer.

There is no doubt Best has ability, he is strong and managed to score a fair amount of goals with Newcastle in the Premier League but he hasn't been able to cement a regular spot in a team for a while.

If Evans can get the best out of him, he could at least provide competition for Antenucci and Wood.

Jermaine Pennant

Another player who could be hit or miss, but Pennant has played at a high level for nearly 20 years in the game.

Leeds could do with some more width in their team, with limited options in that department, Pennant could provide some quality on the ball with accurate crosses from the right side.

The club have had to field right-back Sam Bryam in a further forward position and Will Buckley's loan may not be extended past January so Pennant would be a good option for the club to have.

Kevin Nolan

A free agent after leaving West Ham, the 33-year-old would be able to handle the rough and tumble of the Championship and could help develop Leeds academy starlets in Mowatt and Cook.

While Nolan's football ability is on the decline, he is still likely to have the hunger to succeed and would once again be a good alternative to what the club already have in midfield.

Wilson Palacios

Palacios is on trial with Hull City

Once a real talent at Wigan Athletic in the Premier League but now Wilson Palacios is trying to find a new club.

The physical Honduran really struggled at Stoke but a move into the Championship could be a beneficial move for player and club.

On a free transfer, there is limited risk although a start for the midfielder would probably not be guaranteed.

The player would have to fight for the cause to revive his career but if Leeds could get a part of the player who played for Wigan, it would be a great move.

Leeds fans, do you agree with any of these moves? Which ones would you take? Are there any other free agents you would like to see in a Leeds shirt? Let us know in the comments below!
