While the Premier League becomes richer and richer, the teams locked in the Championship can only dream of some of the expense afforded to those in the top flight.

Still, Leicester City's success this term should inspire Championship teams that some astute additions can yield almost unimaginable glory over the course of a short period.

No team should take more heart from that than Leeds United.

One of the biggest clubs in England, who have been mismanaged so poorly for much of the last decade and beyond. There's little doubt the Whites are some way off even mounting even a playoff push, but as this season more than ever has taught us, the impossible may well be within reach.

The Whites are unlikely to spend awfully big in the transfer market, though do they really need to? A host of free agents will float about the market this summer, baying for a contract at a club the size of the Yorkshire giants.

Clearly, the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and John Terry are perhaps a touch too ambitious, but the buck does not stop at those internationals in particular.

So, who else is there? Let's take a look.

Darron Gibson

If Liam Bridcutt isn't kept around following the expiration of his loan deal at Elland Road, the club will need an experienced holding partner for Lewis Cook, providing he isn't sold of course.

While Everton's Darron Gibson is by no means carbon copy of the Scotsman, the Irishman would be an excellent deep-lying playmaker at Championship level.

Joey O'Brien

West Ham's utility man Joey O'Brien is rarely afforded much of a look in under Slaven Bilic and will more than likely leave this summer.

The Republic of Ireland international is able to play in both midfield and attack, either centrally or further wide.

A player of his vast experience would be a useful addition to the ranks, while covering a number of bases.

Adrian Mariappa

Mariappa

Still only 29-years of age, Adrian Mariappa has been a Premier League player for both Crystal Palace and Reading in his career, though never really got a solid run of games.

Still, his experience in the top flight could prove invaluable for Leeds, and on a free deal, could represent a decent replacement for Giuseppe Bellusci should the Italian leave.

James Morrison

It looks increasingly unlikely that James Morrison will be kept on by West Bromwich Albion this summer, despite rarely putting a foot wrong for the Baggies when he's played.

A Scotland international, he'd be a dynamic presence in the middle of the park and help supply Chris Wood with plenty of ammunition.

Joao Carlos Teixeira

Joao Carlos Teixeira

Perhaps the most ambitious of the suggestions, though Liverpool's Portuguese midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira desperately needs to be playing regular football at this stage in his career.

The 23-year old is a technically blessed attacking midfielder, who is capable of playing off a centre-forward and reeling in goals and assists in equal measure.
