With promotion now seemingly out of the question due to a poor run of form, the majority of Wolves fans are desperate to see this season out and start again next term.

Whether Kenny Jackett will be at the helm come June still remains to be seen, but the supporters will be desperate to see some fresh blood injected into the team, to help them mount a sustainable promotion charge next season.

After successive relegations followed by a triumphant return to the Championship in the last few years, many players have come and go through the revolving doors at Molineux.

Some of those exiting have been surplus to requirements but some have had to be sold because they couldn't fend off high bids from Premier League clubs.

Benik Afobe was the last high-profile player to leave the club as the club just could not refuse to turn down Bournemouth's bid for the 23-year-old starlet.

There's only 13 games to go in the Championship and the summer transfer window will be upon us sooner than we all think.

With that in mind, FootballLeagueWorld writer Alex Grove takes a look at FIVE former players who the Midlands side could try to re-sign in the summer......

Bakary Sako

sako

A bit of a long shot admittedly but after the Malian hasn't scored since he set the Premier League alight, by scoring in his first two games against Aston Villa and Chelsea.

Admittedly Sako has struggled with a hamstring injury which has ruled him out in recent weeks, and he will be hoping that he can return soon to put an end to Palace's nine game winless streak in the league.

However, Yannick Bolasie, who is also looking to make a comeback from injury will also be vying for Sako's position on the wing.

Should Sako continue to struggle to stake his place in the starting XI then Pardew may be tempted to loan the skilful winger to the Championship to let him prove his worth, and I'm sure there's no place he would rather go to than Wolves.

He will forever be adored by the fans at the club and they would welcome him back with open arms.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake

ebanks blake

Some may think he's past it and that his best years are behind him, but after enduring injury-crippling spells at Ipswich and Preston, the 29-year-old has now found his goalscoring boots once again for Chesterfield.

In 27 games for the League one outfit this season he has notched nine goals and is the second top scorer at the club behind Lee Novak.

Now of course, Ebanks-Blake is excelling in League One but he knows the Championship inside out and scored 25 goals to fire Wolves to the Premier League in 2009.

It would be a big risk and it could catastrophically backfire but he may still have it in him to produce the goods in the second tier once again.

Wolves have struggled for goals in the absence of Benik Afobe, with Nouha Dicko and exciting youngster Michal Zyro both sidelined with injuries.

Joe Mason hasn't been used as a striker, Bjorn Sigurdarson is still waiting to get off the mark for the club this season and Adam Le Fondre has failed to impress in his loan spell.

Ebanks-Blake is definitely a player that club scouts should be keeping an eye on, and should he continue to have a prolific season for Chesterfield then Wolves may be tempted to put in on offer for their former goalscorer in the summer.

Sam Vokes

Vokes is a player that Wolves definitely got rid of too rashly, as since his departure from the club he has really found his feet at Burnley.

In his last nine games in all competitions, the Welshman has found the back of the net six times, proving that he can be as useful as Andre Gray in the scoring department.

Should Vokes continue to score consistently it may be difficult to tempt the 26-year-old back to Molineux, where he was forced to play a bit-part role due to the form of Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo.

However things can change very quickly in the Championship and if Burnley do get promoted back to the Premier League then Vokes may find first-team opportunities hard to come by.

Wolves will still be on the lookout for a goalscorer in the summer and Vokes would fit the bill perfectly.

Matt Jarvis

When West Ham came in with a high bid for winger Jarvis following relegation from the top-flight, Wolves knew that they had no option but to let him go.

However his move to East London wasn't filled with success as he fell down the pecking order at the Hammers - especially under Slaven Bilic who made the decision to loan him to Norwich.

Jarvis has now signed for the Canaries permanently after impressing Alex Neil during his loan spell in Norfolk but should Norwich get relegated then there's no reason why Wolves can't make an ambitious bid for their former tricky winger.

He was the first player to pull on a three lions jersey in over 20 years as his superb performances in the league convinced Fabio Capello to give him a call-up.

Wolves are still yet to replace Bakary Sako on the wing with a naturally gifted player who can cause damage on the left-hand side.

Matt Jarvis would be more than capable of filling this void and I think he's still got a lot of talent which Wolves would love to take advantage of.

George Friend

It will be incredibly hard to tempt Friend back to Molineux from Middlesbrough, but stranger things have happened in the past.

He spent two seasons at Molineux between 2008 and 2010 but only managed to make seven appearances for Mick McCarthy's side.

After a move to Doncaster, his potential was quickly unearthed and Boro swooped for the left-back in 2012 to sign him for a small fee of £100,000.

Since then, the 28-year-old has gone on to make over 100 appearances at the Riverside and has only missed four league games this season.

Wolves fans may forget that Friend even played for the club but he has gone on to be a very influential player under Aitor Karanka and the Midlands side could do with a left-back in their ranks.

The January sale of Scott Golbourne has meant that right-back Matt Doherty has been operating on the left-flank and Wolves could certainly do with a natural left-back to come in and adopt this position.

Wolves fans - do you agree with my 5 picks? Are there any other former players that you would like to see make a return to Molineux in the summer transfer window?
