Over the years many of the Cardiff fans' most beloved bluebirds have been sold or moved, with news of their departures breaking the hearts of supporters.

Indeed, such is Cardiff's chequered financial history, cut-backs and fire sales are nothing new.

However with the club’s finances have finally taking a step in the right direction with Tan agreeing to pay a major cut in their wealthy debt.

With the club's debts being resolved and Slade offloading players with high wages, they should be on track to be released from the transfer embargo and free to sign players once again.

The South Wales side has certainly not been at their full potential this season as they lie in 9th place in the league, and look unlikely to reach the play offs.

Previous players often cling on to a strong bond with a former club and supporters that have cheered them on every game and made them feel wanted.

Cardiff have the opportunity to try and lure back their former stars to the football club that are not getting enough playing time with their current clubs.

Adam Matthews

In February 2011 the talented young full back, who won Football League Apprentice of the Year, was snapped up by Celtic on a pre-contract deal.

Many fans felt Matthews was never given a proper chance at Cardiff, and were furious when he eventually left for nothing and went on to enjoy a career on the Champions League and international stage.

The full-back is a forgotten man at Sunderland at the moment, and was linked with a move away from the North East during the January transfer window.

However, a deal was never struck and he has been left frustrated as he looks to spend another four months being overlooked by Sam Allardyce.

Cardiff would welcome the return of Matthews as he has secured more experience and would really tighten up their back line.

Fraizer Campbell

The Palace striker was a real hit for the Bluebirds in his brief spell with the club.

The supporters were excited when he arrived at the Cardiff City Stadium for a bargain price of £650,000 – recognising his potential during his time with Hull City and Sunderland.

He helped Cardiff win the Championship title in 2013 - netting seven goals in 12 appearances.

He also gave a credible account for himself in their single season in the Premier League – scoring six goals that lead to the interest of Crystal Palace.

Ever since he has joined the South East London side, he has always been on the outskirts of the squad and Cardiff are lacking a goal scorer at the moment.

The supporters would welcome back the striker with open arms if he continued his form during his time with the Bluebirds.

Joe Ledley

The Cardiff born midfielder really was a hero of the Bluebirds faithful, especially after scoring the goal that took them to the 2008 FA Cup final.

However, somehow he was allowed to run down his contract and leave for Celtic on a free transfer. Some fans will never forgive the player while others blame the board.

Crystal Palace has always been a fan of the Cardiff City squad, and secured Ledley to Selhurst Park.

Likewise to Campbell, he has also not played as much as he would like.

If Slade is given money to spend in the summer, then they should consider the Welsh international whom would love to return to his home city.

Mats Moller Daehli

The young Norwegian international was a big surprise package when he arrived at the Cardiff City Stadium.

To many Cardiff City fans, Mats Moller Daehli was the most naturally gifted footballer the Bluebirds have had on their books since the emergence of a young Aaron Ramsey.

You can question lots of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s many signings, but grabbing Daehli from the clutches of Manchester United was a brilliant acquisition for the Bluebirds.

Daehli never fitted in with Russell Slade’s 4-4-2, nor did the style of football adopted suit him.

With Slade’s future in question due to the club not meeting their targets, a new manager could be appointed in the summer and should definitely consider bringing the Norwegian back to the Welsh capital.

He has a proven track record and would deliver at the club due to his trickery that caused many problems for Premier League defences.

Roger Johnson

The central defender was one of the most highly regarded centre backs that the Bluebirds have ever had.

He was an old fashioned kind of defender, one that was strong, organised and looked solid against any striker that he came up against.

He is currently on an 18 month contract with Charlton that are severely struggling at the bottom of the Championship.

If the Addicks get relegated this season, Johnson will not stick around and would want a move away from the club.

At the age of 32, he could be given one last chance with the Bluebirds and would join a club that the supporters idolise him.
