The Tottenham Hotspur squad could do with some bolstering, as well as some youth, and the Football League is the perfect place to find such young talent.

Hugo Lloris is a quality goalkeeper and should he keep performing and Tottenham keep underachieving, he could choose to depart White Hart Lane, leaving Spurs with a selection.

Similarly, the defence lacks Premier League quality, with inexperienced players such as Danny Rose and Eric Dier finding themselves around the first team.

In the midfield, Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli cannot be relied on to supply and score goals week in and week out, and the squad is short of cover.

Here are FIVE Football League players who Tottenham Hotspur should sign in January.....

Jordan Obita

The Reading left back has been playing regular first-team football at Reading for two full seasons, and picked up the 2013/14 Fans Player of the Season Award, in his first year in the first-team.

Obita is only 21, and has all the potential to become a Premier League player in the very near future - and the Royals defender could be a perfect long-term solution for Spurs' full-back position.

Daniel Bentley

The young Southend keeper is a real prospect and Spurs need a young keeper to replace Hugo Lloris when he either retires, or departs to another club.

Bentley put in an outstanding display in last year's League Two Play-Off Final, in which he produced a string of fine saves, and essentially won Southend the penalty shootout that followed.

The goalkeeper can clearly perform on bigger stages, and his future is a bright one - so Pochettino should definitely consider moving for the Southend goalkeeper.

Massimo Luongo

The Aussie midfielder is currently turning out for QPR, and thanks to his outstanding performances which saw him named player of the tournament at the Asian Cup back last season, he was put on the provisional Ballon D'Or shortlist.

The midfielder 23-year-old spent a large part of his youth career at Spurs anyway, so he will be used to the surroundings at White Hart Lane.

Lewis Cook

Cook is giving Leeds United fans something to cheer about in a pretty bleak spell at the moment, and the 18-year-old England under-19 international is producing a series of brilliant performances for the Whites this season.

The midfielder has already attracted interest from a variety of Premier League clubs, and could in future, join the likes of Dele Alli, Ryan Mason and Eric Dier in the Tottenham midfield.

Jack Whatmough

The Portsmouth central defender is best known by most fans for his bleach blond hair, and resembling England international and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

However, the England youngster is making a name for himself a solid centre-half at Fratton Park, with a string of solid performances in the Pompey back line.

Eric Dier is a competent young centre back and defensive midfielder, and Whatmough could be a potential candidate to take over from Jan Vertonghen in the future.
