Liverpool have started the 2015/16 season in underwhelming style and with manager Brendan Rodgers under increased pressure and it looks as though the club could be set to dip back into the transfer market in January.

Having spent a hefty amount of money in the summer, it is unlikely that the Reds hierarchy will be willing to let Rodgers loose with another £100 million and the Irishman could be forced into looking at cheaper options.

In the summer Christian Benteke arrived from Aston Villa for a whopping £32.5 million whilst unknown Brazilian quantity Roberto Firmino signed for a hefty £23.5 million.

Premier League clubs should begin scouring the lower leagues for talented players rather than paying over the odds for players.

The Football League is littered with bright prospects and rough diamonds, who given half a chance could make the step-up to play top-flight football.

Here we take a look at FIVE players who Liverpool should look to capture from the Football League.

1. Will Hughes

Okay so at present Will Hughes is injured but he won't be injured forever and he is destined for the Premier League at some point.

Having lost Steven Gerrard who moved to LA Galaxy in the summer, there is a real vacancy to fill for the Reds in the middle of the park and the Derby County player could be just the tonic.

Hughes could go to Liverpool and be a key player for them for the next ten years if he continues to develop as he has over the last three years.

2. Charlie Austin

Queens Park Rangers have already said that they will accept nothing less than £15 million for their prized asset but he could prove to be a real steal for any club in the Premier League.

Austin netted 18-goals last season for a team who finished in the bottom three in the top flight and quite why no team has deemed him worth a punt is nothing short of bizarre.

The striker has picked up this season where he left off last and has netted six times for the R's in the Championship so far this season.

If he keeps scoring goals between now and January, there is no way he will still be at Loftus Road come the beginning of February.

3. Daniel Bentley

With the form of Liverpool's current first choice stopper Simon Mignolet sporadic at the very best, it might not be too long before the club hunt for a new goalkeeper.

The Reds could do a lot worse than Southend United custodian Daniel Bentley who looks set for a bright future at the very top of the English game.

Despite his tender age of 22-years-old, Bentley has already played over 100 games for the Shrimpers and looks set to leave Roots Hall in Januray, following a string of fine performances already this season in League One.

The Basildon-born stopper was linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers in the summer although that move never came to fruition and on current form he could bypass the Championship and earn himself a move straight into the elite.

4. Ben Gibson

Another youngster who looks destined for big things is Middlesbrough central defender Ben Gibson.

The 22-year-old is now a mainstay in the Boro team and was instrumental for the club last season as they reached the Play-Off Final.

Liverpool need some fresh impetus at in the centre of their defensive unit and someone like Gibson would be a perfect fit for Liverpool.

5. Demarai Gray

Gray burst onto the Championship scene last season with a string of impressive performances for Birmingham City.

The Blues secured a superb tenth placed finish last season and a large amount of gratitude for that should go to Gray.

The 19-year-old is a tricky winger who looks certain to play in the Premier League one day, and he was the subject of top flight interest earlier in the summer.

The January transfer window will probably come too soon for Gray to make the step up, but with another six months of first-team football under his belt at St Andrews, it can only put him in good stead for the future.

It would be beneficial for a club like Liverpool to sign Gray soon and then loan him out, to get themselves a bright prospect on the books for the future years.
