The same thing gets said every year about Arsenal that if they keep all of their best players fit, they will challenge for the title.

Frankly, in recent years they never manage to keep their top stars fit and always end up settling for third or fourth.

This year maybe Arsene Wenger could scour the Football League for some top talent and add some meat to the bones in his squad in an attempt to make a push towards the title.

Should the French manager choose to take my advice on board, here are five players he should look at pursuing.

1. Daniel Bentley

Arsenal secured the services of Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer but at 33-years-old he certainly won't be around forever.

The Gunners need a custodian to come in and learn from Cech during his twilight years and develop from the Czech's advise.

Southend stopper Bentley should be just the man for the Gunners to for, with the youngster possessing all the attributed which make a top keeper.

He is quick off of his line, commanding in the box and takes crosses out of the sky with ease making him a shrewd signing for any Premier League club.

2. Jordan Rhodes

Blackburn Rovers striker Rhodes is destined to turn out for a Premier League club one day so why not the Gunners.

His record in terms of scoring goals in the Football League is quite simply breathtaking and with a serious shortage of strikers at the Emirates Stadium at present, Arsenal could do a lot worse than take a punt here.

The Scotland international looks set to leave his current club in January with Rovers willing to sell to recoup some cash which would ease their financial difficulties.

With Rhodes being their prized asset they are likely to command a fairly hefty fee, but the player's desire to play in the Premier League could play a big part in any move.

Obviously unproven in the top flight, but Rhodes would be a certain upgrade on some of the Arsenal forward flops of previous campaigns.

3. Lewis Dunk

Central defender Dunk was subject of interest from Newcastle United in the summer, but opted to sign a new deal with Brighton and Hove Albion instead.

Despite pledging his future to the Seagulls, it is only a matter of time before Dunk's performances catch the eye of a club higher up the Premier League than the Magpies.

Brighton are currently top of the Championship and a large part of that is down to the leadership qualities of the 23-year-old ball-playing central defender.

Mature beyond his tender years, Dunk could go on to be a mainstay in the Arsenal back four for the next ten years.

With German defender Per Mertersacker clearly lacking in pace, now might be the time for the Gunners to replace the 31-year-old with a more nimble Dunk.

4. Louis Reed

Sheffield United youngster Reed would be a sound addition to the Arsenal midfield.

The 18-year-old is in the history books as the youngest player to ever appear for the Blades in league football and given his performances it is easy to see why he achieved that feat.

Comfortable on the ball and when breaking play up, Reed is also blessed with the ability to play a killer pass through to the forwards with ease.

Arsenal will be looking for someone to take the place of Mikel Arteta in a year or so and why not England Under-19 international Reed.

Gunners boss Wenger likes a challenge when it comes to getting the best out a young player and he could work wonders for Sheffield-born Reed's career.

5. George Thorne

Before injuring his knee ligaments at the start of last season, Derby County midfielder Thorne was building up quite a reputation for himself.

A series of eye-catching performances in the middle of the park form the ex-West Brom man saw Derby reach the Play-Off Final whilst he was on loan with the club.

Now back fully fit, Thorne is eager to pick up where he left off and when in full flow this season he has again shown glimpses of his undoubted talent.

Still only 22-years-old Thorne could be the man in the middle of the park to work in tandem with Francis Coquelin.

Doubts would no doubt be cast over his fitness, but due to his relatively young age, he could be worth a punt for the Gunners.
