Derby County are one of the biggest sides in the Championship, and have a history of legendary players which have played at the very top of the English game.

Derby in the modern day are one of the best sides in the Championship, and have a very strong squad which they hope will lead them to promotion, after a disappointing two seasons of finishing agonisingly short.

They sometimes lack big game players and this begs the question what ex-Derby players had these kinds of traits which Derby need now.

The Derby player history is littered with internationals and quality which in there prime, would easily be some of the best players in the Championship.

Derby for all the quality they possess do have weaknesses such as a shaky defence, an inconsistent midfield and limited resources up front.

So, here's FIVE Derby legends the club could they really do with in there hunt for promotion.....

Steve Bloomer

Possibly the most famous player affiliated with Derby, he was one of the most prolific strikers in his era and an England international.

He played for Derby between 1891-1906 and bagged 238 goals in 375 games before enjoying good tenures at Middlesbrough, before returning to Derby between 1910 and 1914, scoring 53 goals in 98 games before the First World War broke out.

Bloomer also had an impressive record of 28 goals in 23 games for England making him one of their most prolific strikers concerning goals to games ratio.

His partnership with Chris Martin nowadays would be interesting to watch and would give them much needed options up front.

Jack Barker

The centre half is fondly remembered by Derby fans and played 327 games for the club at centre half, and was capped 11 times by England, before managing Derby between 1953-55.

He was a solid player and would give them some much needed options at the back with Keogh and Shackell somewhat injury prone.

Peter Shilton

The goalkeeper holds the record for most England caps and also played 175 games for Derby between the years 1987-1992.

He has a remarkable career and his career at Derby is fondly remembered and one of their best ever keepers, they had serious problems with Lee Grant in goal last season, and Scott Carson this season has been a bit better,  but they could do with another top quality keeper and Shilton is one of the best in English history.

Dave Mackay

Played as a left half and later as a sweeper for Derby from 1968 - 1971 and played 122 games for the Midlands club.

He was capped 22 games for Scotland and was a model of consistency for Derby at left-back.

He also managed Derby between 1973-76 and is a legend at Derby - they could definitely do with extra defensive cover and in his prime, Mackay would be more than capable.

John Goodall

The former Derby forward scored 76 goals in 211 games for Derby between the years 1889-1900 and can play on the wing and up front.

He also played for England 14 times and scored 12 goals for them, and was named in the Football League Legends 10,0 and in the English hall of fame.

In Goodall's prime, he would give Derby extra options up front, but more importantly a major source of goals that would propel them up the Sky Bet Championship table.
