Derby County were held at Pride Park to a 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
The score draw sees Derby remain in the bottom half of the Championship table and looking up at a whole host of sides who look to make the play-off race exciting.
Manager Phillip Cocu arrived in the summer and is fairly relaxed over his side’s hit and miss form, but Derby fans will be fairly aggrieved that the season has not yet taken off for them.
Consistent form from the players has also been a problem, relying heavily on the likes of Martyn Waghorn and Tom Lawrence.
Heading into Saturday’s game, Cocu opted to make some changes – and he opted to play a back three in defence with Craig Forsyth coming in alongside Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom.
Forsyth’s inclusion did pay off with the 30-year-old Scotsman impressing, and WE asked the question of Should he start against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.
Forsyth produced some good statistics on Saturday afternoon, but manager Cocu is still learning about his players and seems unsettled on his starting eleven.
That being said, Forysth will undoubtedly be certain of a starting place this coming weekend and whilst that may be because of a lack of defensive options – it could also be the perfect platform for the defender to take his place and keep it for the remainder of the season.
Against QPR, Forsyth performed well, winning 16 out of his 25 duels with he opposition and that stat is likely to improve as the weeks go on.
Another good stat from the weekend’s came was the fact that Forysth completed 37 out of 46 passes and that is something Cocu will enjoy.
The former PSV Eindhoven man has attempted to embed a style of play and he will be keen for his central defenders to make more passes, rather than thumping the ball forward.
6 out of ten aerial duels won, eight interceptions, five clearances and one blocked shot are not overly impressive stats but Forsyth will be gaining some praise of Cocu prior to the weekend game.
