West Ham United have enjoyed an excellent start to the season under Slaven Bilic, and have many players in red hot form such as Payet and Lanzini.

But there is a wealth of talent in the Championship, that should not be frowned upon..

West ham have a good record of turning Football League players into good Premier League players, which we can tell by Aaron Cresswell's excellent form under Bilic/

There's an abundance of experienced players and young starlets that West Ham could go in for in January, to help them maintain their challenge for the top eight.

West Ham seem strong all over the pitch but do struggle up front for an out-and-out striker, and often rely on their creative midfield to lay it on a plate for the front men.

The Hammers do sometimes appear shaky at the back and there are a lot of good defenders in the Championship that could help them solve this problem.

Here's FIVE Championship players that West ham should sign in January....

Daniel Ayala

The Spanish centre back is one of the best defenders outside the Premier League and at the age of 24, he would certainly be a long term option for West Ham.

He is known for his excellent ability in the air and his improvement over a short period of time has been phenomenal.

Ayala was named in the Championship team of the year last season and was part of the best defence in the league at Middlesbrough.

He is also a big threat at set pieces due to his height and aggression, and has experience of the Premier League having been a graduate of Liverpool's academy and was a Norwich player, but was mostly consigned to the bench.

The Boro ace has impressed pundits and put in several fantastic performances like the ones against Manchester City and United this season, and would be a great addition to the West Ham defence who can be shaky sometimes.

Adam Clayton

Clayton hopes the club keep up their good form

The Middlesbrough midfielder has done an excellent job of protecting the defence since his move from Huddersfield, and has a great passing ability.

He may not fit in the system Bilic plays in, but sometimes West Ham when going ahead can protect leads by bringing Clayton on for there more attacking midfielders like Kouyate, as West Ham can be caught out.

Jordan Rhodes

West Ham are in need of an out-and-out goalscorer which Carroll and Sakho have failed to become.

Sakho has been scoring goals but is injury prone which of course Carroll is too.

Rhodes is usually quite injury resistant and has an excellent goalscoring record at Blackburn.

The former Huddersfield man consistently scores 20 goals a season at this level and it is surprising that no Premier League club has taken a chance on him.

West Ham could do with the clinical frontman to boost their own chances of a top eight finish, and Rhodes could be that man.

Charlie Austin

Charlie Austin has today joined Southampton

Austin's situation is somewhat similar to Rhodes, he is a proven goalscorer at Championship level but he is also proven in the Premier League.

£15 million is likely to be the asking price but that would surely be negotiable for a club like QPR who are in financial trouble.

Even though Austin felt disparaged by West Ham chairman's comments about his fitness, I'm sure all is forgiven and he would jump at the chance of playing in the Premier League especially with Euro 2016 approaching.

Ahmed Elmohamady

A former Premier League right-back, the Hull man now plays in the Championship after their relegation last year.

He has made a blistering start bagging numerous goals and assists already, including a goal against MK Dons at the weekend.

A player of definite Premier League quality he interested a host of clubs in the summer and West Ham would be keen to bolster their threat down the right, as they would be dangerous when paired with Cresswell on the left.

What do you think West Ham fans? Would you like these players? Also how much would they cost? Leave thoughts and opinions below!
