Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League table, with 42 points from their 20 games.

Whilst many say this is their best chance of winning the league since they were last victorious back in 2004, they still have their critics, who say that they just don't have enough depth in their squad to cope with the seemingly endless injury list they get each season.

The standard of the Championship is undoubtedly on the rise, with newly promoted sides not only staying up but pushing higher and higher up the table in their first season.

Watford are currently ninth place, and even beat Liverpool 3-0 at home this season; whilst Bournemouth beat Chelsea and Manchester United back to back in December.

Norwich too are doing well in their return to the top flight, with three victories in their last four, including a 2-1 win away to Manchester United before Christmas.

With this in mind, it is easy to picture some of the Championship's leading lights making themselves at home in Premier League XI's.

With just Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud Arsenal's only currently fit strikers, and Hector Bellerin arguably their only first team quality right back, here are FIVE players from England's second division that Arsene Wenger may want to consider putting a bid in for before the transfer window slams shut on February 1st.....

Jordan Rhodes

Blackburn' striker has turned heads since his Huddersfield Town days.

The Scotsman scored 73 times in 124 appearances for the Yorkshire side, before crossing the Pennines to score 82 in 154 for Blackburn since his move in 2012.

He is 25-years old, so whilst he still has many years left in his career, he should be targeting a Premier League move sooner rather than later.

Blackburn sit 17th, and they haven't won since they beat Rotherham 1-0 back in December. Whilst Rhodes hasn't had the best season of his career, he has still managed nine goals from his 22 starts, the joint eighth most in the division.

An extra striker might be what Arsenal need to sustain their title challenge, and there is no doubt that Rhodes can hold his own in the top flight.

George Friend

The English defender was named in the Championship team of the year last season, for a Middlesbrough side who ended up finishing fourth place.

And such is the form of the 28-year-old at the minute, his whoscored.com rating is higher than it was last season, currently at 7.41.

A player who is not afraid to go forward, he would fit into Wenger's plans of having his full back's bomb on when they are in possession of the ball.

Naturally a left sided player, his determination and commitment for 'Boro last season led manager Aitor Karanka to name him stand-in captain for the side.

Dimitrios Konstantopoulos

The Middlesbrough goalkeeper has enjoyed a healthy season on Teesside, playing every single minute of the campaign thus far.

His form has led Karanka's side to the top of the table, and he has even been named Man of the Match twice.

'Boro are conceding just once every two games, and haven't conceded in the league since the start of November.

With David Ospina constantly being linked with a move out of the North London side after being dropped as Champions League 'keeper, the Gunners could be after someone to replace him in case of injury to number one, Petr Cech.

At 37, he may not have too many years left in his gloves, but he would definitely challenge Cech and be a worthy number two at the Gunners.

Curtis Davies

Davies

The Gunners' problems at centre-back are well-known, with the signing of Gabriel giving them another option.

However, most teams around them have more than three central defenders.

Hull's Curtis Davies has been linked with a high profile move for some time, after impressive displays including helping Hull City get to the FA Cup final in the 2013/14 season.

The Tigers are currently third place in the Championship and are well placed to make at least the play-offs.

Davies may not get the game time that he has had at City, but will the chance of helping Arsenal win their first Premier League crown in 12 years entice Steve Bruce's star man away from the KC Stadium?

Daniel Ayala

Daniel Ayala is a similar player to Davies - tall, strong in the air and a good leader.

The Spaniard made his professional debut for Liverpool back in 2009, before moving to Norwich and Middlesbrough respectively.

Ayala has been a crucial cog in the centre of 'Boro's defence this season, making 23 appearances in the league and three league cup starts.

He is also five years younger than Davies, so this, alongside his ability in the air would make him the perfect long term fit alongside Laurent Koscielny at the heart of the Gunners' defence.
