Newcastle United haven't had the fantastic start to the season which many fans would have hoped for, which leaves the door open for Steve McClaren to bring in some new fresh talent for his club.

Newcastle are currently third from bottom in the Barclays Premier League, after only winning one game from a possible 11, this leaves many Newcastle fans fearing once again, as they are being pulled into another relegation battle.

Newcastle were once a team challenging for the Europa League places, but now that is in the distant past in many fans' minds.

They have struggled to get to grips with this year's Premier League which leaves the January transfer window a perfect time for the Magpies to strengthen.

Here's FIVE quality Football League players, who are capable of joining Newcastle's side and help them achieve their goals this season.....

Fabio

The Cardiff full-back has amounted a substantial amount of praise since the start of the season, as he has put in some quality performances for the Bluebirds.

He has exceptional qualities both in defending and attacking and he will certainly be able to add a few more goals, or even clean sheets to Newcastle's season.

At this moment in time Janmaat is viewed as Newcastle's strongest full-back, and if Fabio does arrive at St James Park he will make a massive impact, and maybe give Janmaat and the rest of his team a run for their money.

Solly March

The flamboyant Brighton winger has already been heavily linked with the Toon this season, and there is no surprise why.

He has been one of Brighton's standout performers since the Championship season got underway this season, and he has helped the Seagulls to be the only club in England to have not lost a match.

Wijnaldum is probably Newcastle's strongest attacking midfielder, however that is a position that is really lacking squad depth for the Magpies, and an extra body to bolster the team's performance would be a fantastic option for Steve McClaren's men.

The addition of Solly March could help boost the players morale, and it could potentially move Newcastle away from the relegation zone.

Curtis Davies

The Hull City defender has become irreplaceable for the Tigers at times, and in any team that he plays for he has the potential to turn into into a defensively minded team, which would certainly benefit Newcastle.

Davies would easily be able to fit into McClaren's plans, as he would play alongside either Coloccini or Mbemba in Newcastle's starting eleven.

Curtis Davies is loved by Hull City fans, as he stayed with his beloved club even though they got relegated from the top tier of English football.

If Newcastle do opt for Curtis Davis it will be a interesting deal to see how Davies will fair at another top Premier League club.

Tom Huddlestone

Could Tom Huddlestone be heading to QPR in January?

Huddlestone, is a central midfielder who plays for Hull City, who has experience from the Premier League - there is no reason why anyone would frown on this deal, if it happened of course.

Over times, Newcastle fans have complained lacking squad depth in the middle of the park, and Huddlestone could become a perfect fit for the Magpies and lead them from strength to strength.

Even though he was unable to prevent Hull getting relegated last year, he is still a top quality player who is playing in a league below the Premier League, where he belongs.

He will be able to add the stability you need in defence, especially when it comes towards the end of the season and he could even grab a few goals or two in the process.

If this move does happen it will be extremely interesting to see how he will fare in Newcastle's team.

Charlie Austin

In recent times, fans have been moaning at Newcastle's attacking options and there is no better forward right now in the Football League than Charlie Austin, who is able to come and provide a substantial amount of goals a season.

Newcastle's front line mainly consists of Perez and Mitrovic, and so far they haven't provided the goals in the number that Newcastle fans would have wanted this year.

Charlie Austin would turn Newcastle into a different team, and he could even help Newcastle to turn back time and head back to the glory days.

You never know if this move does happen, Charlie Austin could be labelled as the next Alan Shearer.
