With more and more Premier League clubs scouring the Football League for talent, Manchester City could make a move for a number of players from the Championship in Janaury.

Manchester City's current crop of young players includes the likes of Nigerian striker and former African Young Player of the Year award winner Kelechi Iheanacho, Austrian winger Sinan Bytyqi, young Belgium centre half Jason Denayer and Turkish Target Man Enes Unal, but the Citizens are well short of talented young players in comparison to Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Championship could be the ideal place for Manuel Pellegrini to pick up the next wonderkid to storm English football.

Partick Roberts was poached by City from London club Fulham, and another coup for a young talent will most likely be on the cards this January.

With the current rich owners in place, money wont be an issue, but finding a player up to the calibre of the Premier League could be a challenge for the scouting team at the Manchester club.

Here are FIVE Championship players Man City should sign this January:

Lasse Vigen Christensen

The young Danish midfielder has established himself as an indispensable member of the first team at Craven Cottage, making 18 appearances this season.

Whilst he is yet to score a goal this campaign, he has kept experienced heads such as Scott Parker out of the side with some excellent midfield performances.

However, the lure of Premier League and continental football could prove too much for the Fulham playmaker, should City come knocking for another talented midfielder.

Aaron Kuhl

Reading's under-21 club captain may be best known for have hair like that of Brazilian defender David Luiz, but the central midfielder is rated very highly among English scouts, and has garnered interest from Man City in the past.

Reading fought off that interest in the past, but with Kuhl knocking on the door of the first team now, City may be looking to make a permanent bid.

He has returned early from a loan spell at lowly Dundee United after a torrid time in Scotland, but could easily break into Reading's first squad amongst a host of injuries, and attract even more attention for some top clubs.

Zach Clough

With Bolton in the middle of some terrible financial problems, with the club facing possible administration and bankruptcy, Neil Lennon will be forced to sell, and who better to poach than their prized asset; young English striker Zach Clough.

3 goals may seem like a modest tally this season, but when you're playing in a squad lacking confidence like Bolton, it's hard to find the chances to score 20 goals or more, and his versatility is key to his game, meaning he can be deployed in an attacking midfield role as well.

His pace and prowess could easily be adapted and nurtured to turn him into a Premier League striker.

Lucas Joao

The Portuguese striker created waves upon arriving at Sheffield Wednesday from Portuguese Primera Liga side Nacional along with team mate Marco Matias , and his pure strength and power has helped  him put away 7 goals in his first 14 starts for the Owls.

The rate of goals have slowed down of late, but there is no doubting his raw ability, and if City want a player who could possibly score goals at the same rate as main man and fan favourite Sergio Aguero, then Joao could be their man.

At just 22, he could go on to play for City for years to come.

Christian Walton

Brighton's giant young goalkeeper spent the first half of the season on loan at League 2 high flyers Plymouth Argyle, making 4 starts for the League 2 club, and has impressed fans of both clubs with some excellent stops.

Outside of Joe Hart, City have little in the way of goalkeepers, with Willy Caballero still yet to really be seen in a regular starting role, and 38-year-old Richard Wright being third choice, so an addition to the goalkeeping department could be vital.

Should City sign him, the sky would be the limit, with Walton's sights set on succeeding Joe Hart as the England number 1.
