Premier League outfit Southampton are set to push ahead with a January transfer swoop on Brighton and Hove Albion for their highly-rated winger Solly March.

The Sky Bet Championship club are expected to do business on the player, but only if they receive a bid in the region of around £7.5 million.

With the Brighton youngster just 21-years-old it does go to prove that Saints boss Ronald Koeman is not afraid to secure the brightest young talents for the future, even if they are from the Football League.

Here Football League World's Lee Clarke takes a look at FIVE other Football League players who could follow the Brighton starlet to the south coast to sign for Southampton......

Demarai Gray

The Birmingham City youngster is one of the most promising young talents currently plying his trade on these shores and he is tipped for a bright future.

The 19-year-old looks destined for one of the clubs challenging for the top four, but the lure of more frequent first-team football at St Mary's could represent a bigger incentive for Gray.

His form so far during the calendar year of 2015 has seen him capped five times by the England Under-20's team, and his performances for the Blues have seen them in the thick of the play-off battle in the Sky Bet Championship.

George Thorne

The Derby County midfielder has been in great form this season for the Rams as they go in search of promotion to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old only returned from a serious knee injury at the back end of last season and with that in mind, it is really quite remarkable just how well he has performed for Paul Clement's team during this campaign.

It is highly unlikely the Rams will want to lose such a prized asset as they chase promotion but the ex-West Brom player is destined for a career playing Premier League football.

Charlie Austin

Charlie Austin has today joined Southampton

The Queens Park Rangers striker has spent some time out this season with an injury but has still managed to find the net on eight occasions for the R's.

When you consider that Austin netted 18 goals in the Premier League for the West Londoners last season, it seems remarkable that not a single top flight club took a chance on the 26-year-old in the summer.

With reports now suggesting that the R's will consider flogging Austin for a cut-price £8 million, the Saints could look to land the ex-Burnley striker as early as January.

Michael Keane

The 22-year-old Burnley central defender is having the best season of his career for Sean Dyche's men during the current campaign, and naturally he is attracting Premier League interest.

Southampton would face competition from several other top flight suitors should they wish to try to tempt Keane away from Turf Moor, but it would certainly be a shrewd signing for the Saints should they pull it off.

Naturally Keane is likely to want to stay with the Clarets as they remain in the hunt for promotion, but the lure of immediate Premier League football could be too much to resist.

Alex Mowatt

The 20-year-old Leeds United midfielder has once again been in superb form for the Whites this season offering youth exuberance and goals from all over the pitch.

Several high profile clubs have shown an interest in the youngster and interest is expected to intensify over the coming weeks, with January on the horizon.

The Doncaster-born youngster has taken on a more prominent role in the Leeds team since Steve Evans was handed the managerial reigns, but the kid is destined for the Premier League and just how long the Whites can keep hold of him remains to be seen.
