Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham are flying and younger players seem to be getting more of an opportunity at White Hart Lane.

Under the Argentinean, players are being given time to develop their game and establish themselves in the side.

This season, Dele Alli has emerged as one the hottest prospects in English football and he moved to Spurs as a result of their scouting of the Football League.

Tottenham could still probably do with some defensive reinforcements, and no doubt Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell will be instructing his scouts to be watching defenders in the Championship.

There are some top defenders in the division and Spurs could well look there for some new defenders by the time the January transfer window comes around.

Here are FIVE Championship defenders that Tottenham could sign in January........

Michael Keane

The Burnley defender is one the most promising centre-backs in the Championship, and a number of Premier League clubs may be monitoring the former England under-21 international.

Even though the Clarets were relegated last season, Keane impressed and his form during this campaign has been superb.

Keane would be a great option for Tottenham as he has the quality to play in the side now, and is still young enough to develop and become even better.

Ben Gibson

gibsonnn

The latest graduate from Middlesbrough's esteemed academy looks destined to one day play in the Premier League.

Under the stewardship of Aitor Karanka, he has cut out the mistakes that plagued his early career with the club and his partnership with Daniel Ayala was key to Boro's defensive record last season.

He could excel at Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino's record with younger players and developing them could be a great move for the 22-year old.

Dominic Iorfa

iorfaaaaa

Although the Wolves youngster signed a new deal with the club this week, the versatile defender would be a great long-term option for Spurs.

He has shown his quality in a Wolves side that has struggled for consistency this season, and a move to a Premier League club like Spurs could be a great move for Iorfa.

Versatile players often do well under Pochettino with Eric Dier showing that he is is capable of playing in defence, or in the holding midfield role, Iorfa could follow in his footsteps.

Moses Odubajo

odubajoooo

The Hull City player originally made his name as a right winger at Leyton Orient, but under Steve Bruce he has emerged as a quality right-back.

With Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker currently fighting for the slot on the right hand side of defence, Odubajo won't walk into the team, but he is perfectly capable of establishing himself there.

Although he is a recent signing at the KC Stadium, a move to the Premier League could be too good to turn down for the player, which could force Hull's hand in January.

Lewis Dunk

dunkkkkk

Brighton are the only side in the Championship that are yet to be beaten this season, and a big part of that is their defence, and Lewis Dunk has been a fundamental part of that.

At just 24, he could go a long way in the game and, like other in this list, he could benefit hugely from working with the Spurs manager.

Tottenham could do a lot worse than make a move for the Brighton defender, as he has the potential to go far in the game and, with the right opportunities, be a key player for Pochettino's side.
