Leon Best is a player who has found it difficult to find a club lately, but things could be on the up for the forward - he has recently been recruited on trial at Championship strugglers Rotherham United.

The bottom club are desperate for a spark of confidence in their side after a miserable start to the season.

The former Newcastle United player made a move to Blackburn Rovers three years ago. He did not provide for the club as he only scored two goals in 16 appearances at Ewood Park. His poor record at Blackburn was enough for Gary Bowyer to release him in the summer.

The 28-year-old's miserable record lately has put teams off going in for the forward as they feel that he would be unconvincing signing.

Best could be a good signing for Rotherham, but needs to impress Neil Redfearn by scoring goals. However, if he fails to impress he will be back to square one.

Rotherham United

Rotherham need a miracle at the moment. Best is currently on trial with Redfearn’s side and will be hoping to impress the manager.

Matt Derbyshire is too ineffective at Rotherham and Best would have a big job on his hands to score the goals if Rotherham have any chance of surviving this season.

Nottingham Forest

Forest should be performing far better than they are this season.

They have brought in Liam Trotter form Bolton on loan, who scored on his debut at the City Ground, but the team has only scored twelve goals this season.

Best would provide another option at the club, and would give competition to the likes of Nelson Oliveira.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton are in trouble this season and many fans will question why they agreed to extend Liam Trotter’s loan to Nottm Forest.

You look at their side and the only striker you see causing a nuisance to Championship defenders is Zach Clough.

Neil Lennon has recently brought in Shola Ameobi up front and he made a perfect start to life at the Macron Stadium, but another player who is extremely unprolific.

Best could be an extra option at the club. He is still only 28, and could be the answer to a side that have the worst record for goals this season, only scoring 10.

Preston North End

Despite manager Simon Grayson crediting his players for their sixth clean sheet in a row, there are clearly problems up front.

Preston are the second worst team for scoring goals this season after only netting 11 so far this season.

They need to add another striker in January.

It would be risky signing Best, but if he finds some form then Preston will certainly propel up the league if they continue their impressive defensive record.

MK Dons

Another side that is lacking firepower.

They sit just one place and point above Charlton in the drop zone.

You would wonder whether they have the players to keep them up this season. Dean Bowditch and Simon Church have only scored 4 goals between them this year and they just look ineffective.

MK Dons are certainly finding it tough in the Championship and Best has that Championship and Premier League experience that could settle them and could avoid relegation back to League One.
