Jermaine Pennant, 32, has a vast wealth of experience, at home in England, and abroad in countries such as Spain and India.

The 5 ft 8 right-footed right winger is now a free agent, after leaving Wigan Athletic in 2015 following their relegation to League One.

Likened to Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott, Pennant possess a mixture of skill and pace, and also has excellent set-piece ability.

The former Liverpool and Stoke City wideman has the experience and ability to excel in the Championship, and it could be a coup is a second tier side could snap him up on a free transfer.

Here, FLW's Jack Smillie selects which FIVE clubs could call on the free agent......

On the 12th October 2012, Pennant moved to Wolves on an emergency three-month loan deal after Michael Kightly forced Pennant out of the Stoke starting XI.

He did not have the best of spells at Molineux, making just ten starts, and unfortunately had some poor performances, before returning to Stoke in January 2013.

However, that was 2013. Now, it is 2015. Pennant was in a bad patch at that time, he was struggling. Currently, Wolves are 14th in the Championship and could really do with Pennant to run the right-midfield position for them.

It is undeniable, that Wolves must score more, and Pennant could provide excellent delivery for in-form striker Benik Afobe.

Birmingham City

Birmingham: another one of Pennant's former clubs, but this time; he enjoyed more success at St. Andrew's than Wolves.

Pennant was loaned to Birmingham City for the 2004/05 season. He made a good start at Birmingham, providing Walter Pandiani with the winning goal against Southampton on his debut.

Pennant then made his loan deal permanent, and stayed at Birmingham until he left for Liverpool in 2006.

Birmingham should sign Pennant because they are currently chasing promotion, and squad depth is key. Also, Pennant's experience could come in handy.

Charlton Athletic

Charlton are struggling so far this season, and Pennant's burst of pace could help Charlton pick up their form.

His trickery down the right wing could create a couple of goals and turn games that are destined to be a draw, into victories.

Pennant's style of play also suits Charlton's. Karel Fraeye's men look like they need someone with a bit of experience, who can also deliver when required.

Preston North End

Simon Grayson's Preston should welcome Jermaine Pennant because they are struggling to score this season.

Preston have scored only eleven goals in the Championship campaign: the second lowest amount in the league.

Pennant also comes free of charge, so Preston won't have to worry about paying for the veteran, and therefore risk is avoided.

Nottingham Forest

Dougie Freedman's Nottingham Forest travel to Middlesbrough this afternoon (3pm kick-off)

For the large part of Pennant's career, he has been unsettled. Pennant has played in India and Spain, but he didn't last for long.

Back in the day, Pennant grew up in Nottinghamshire: not too far from where Nottingham Forest play their home games. Pennant would be settled in Nottingham, and that would certainly help his football.

Furthermore, Nottingham Forest need to get back to winning ways, as so far this season they have been slightly disappointing - Pennant can help them.
