Brentford had an excellent season under Mark Warburton last year and we able to reach the play-offs, thanks to the attacking prowess of frontman Andre Gray, who was well supported by attacking midfielders such as Alan Judge, Jota and Alex Pritchard.
Stuart Dallas, Jonathan Douglas and Toumani Diagouraga were also big players for them last season as they punched well above their weight, finishing fifth, before losing to Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals.
Before the season had finishe,d chairman Matthew Benham announced that Warburton would be leaving to the club after disagreements on how the club would go forward, much to the surprise and shock of fans and neutrals alike.
There was then a summer exodus of players with leading scorer Andre Gray leaving in a big money move to Burnley, whilst Jonathan Douglas left for Ipswich, Diagouraga went to Leeds, Stuart Dallas also went to Leeds whilst James Tarkowski left for Burnley after controversially refusing to play for Brentford in order to push through a move.
Also star winger, Jota left on loan to Eibar for personal reasons whilst Alex Pritchard who was brilliant for Brentford last season being named in the team of the Year returned to his parent club Tottenham.
Their attempt to replace these players proved very unsuccessful with strikers Lasse Vibe and Marco Djuricin not coming close to Gray’s record of last season.
Also the loss of Tarkowski and Diagouraga has hurt the defensive record with them faring a lot worst than last season on all fronts.
The only star player they have kept hold of is Alan Judge, who is one of the finest players in the division and is carrying Brentford.
They reached the play-offs last season but have dramatically worsened this season and look set for a late relegation fight as manager Dean Smith endures a miserable time in charge.
In the opinion of FLW’s Michael Hasan, here are FIVE Brentford players that have definitely underperformed this season…..
