With a quarter of the way through this season, Birmingham are in a great position to be up against the Premier League giants come August next year.

Whether Birmingham do go up or not, there are certainly potential Premier League players in this squad who are eager to make a name for themselves in the big time.

The Bluenoses have had previous players who have been brought up with the club and have gone on to be consistent Premier League performers such as Sebastian Larsson.

We at Football League World look at FIVE players who have got the Blues to where they are in the table and look destined for the Premier League.

Let us know if you agree or disagree with these players who have the potential to be Premier League players...

Clayton Donaldson

The striker is definitely a major factor for Birmingham’s success this season.

Donaldson has been a virtual ever-present player since Rowett took over at Blues, and is once again the club’s leading scorer with four goals and has five assists.

It is quite surprising that last year’s promoted teams did not go for the striker in the summer; however you would expect that if he continues to perform then the Premier League teams will come knocking.

Michael Morrison

Birmingham has a very impressive defensive record this season only conceding 15 goals in 15 league outings.

Rowett believes that Morrison has taken the responsibility of skippering the side in his stride, and suggested he was one of his best imports since his own arrival a year ago.

Since the 27-year-old was made captain of the Blues, his performances have become more consistent.

He has plentiful second-tier experience with Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester and maybe this is his final chance to make the step up into the Premier League.

Demarai Gray

Hull City have joined in the race for Demaria Gray

The youngster is a star at St Andrews, and has continually come under speculation and bids from Premier League clubs.

However, Gray seems content with the fact that he is learning his trade with Birmingham, but is it time for him to make the step up?

David Cotterill

The Welsh international has shown some phases of being a great player, but his injury record may have put off Premier League teams from going in for Cotterill.

He has played his part in Wales reaching the European qualifiers in France next summer with some good performances.

The winger’s delivery from set pieces has always been a great part of his game and if the Cotterill can stay injury free this season, then maybe there is a chance of competing in the Premier League.

Jon Toral

The Arsenal loanee has really impressed with the Blues this season, and with many younger players pushing their way through the first team at the Gunners such as Hector Bellerin and Francis Coquelin, he will certainly feel that he can do the same.

Jon Toral is just the latest Arsenal player to choose St Andrew’s as the venue for the next phase of his career development.

He is the sixth player in the last decade to head to the Midlands.
