Gil Merrick

Gill Merrick

The ex-Birmingham goalkeeper played a mammoth 485 games between the sticks for Birmingham, and also 23 games for England.

He also managed Birmingham between 1960 and 1964 and the club renamed the Railway Stand the Gil Merrick stand in 2009 at St Andrews.

He was also the first inductee into the Birmingham City hall of fame and chosen by fans as their representative on the Birmingham walk of stars.

Overall as a player and manager, he loyally served the club for 25 years and in his prime would easily be Birmingham's number one nowadays.

Joe Bradford

He is the club's all-time record goalscorer with an impressive 250 goals in 419 games and has also scored seven goals in 12 games for England.

He was Birmingham's top scorer in the First Division for 12 straight seasons between 1921 and 1933 and their most prolific goalscorer of all time.

Bradford scored their only goal in there FA Cup final defeat to West Brom. With only Clayton Donaldson up front for Birmingham, they could really do with a player like Bradford.

Johnny Crosbie

Another player with a good goalscoring record for Birmingham and a number of international caps.

Between the years 1920-32 he scored 71 goals in 409 games and played two games for Scotland.

He played on the left wing and developed an excellent understanding with Joe Bradford and was a responsible party for Bradford's remarkable scoring record.

Trevor Smith

The defender played 365 games for Birmingham at he back and scored three goals, and also earned a couple of caps for England.

He would provide a solid basis to their defence nowadays even now that Rowett has secured it a bit with Michael Morrison, but Smith is a complete class above Morrison and would be useful to Brum with his international experience.

Trevor Francis

Perhaps there most well known player, Francis played for them between 1971 and 1979 and scored 119 goals in 280 games.

He scored one of Birmingham's most famous goals when he cut in and beat four QPR defenders and beat the misplaced keeper.

Francis also bagged 12 goals in 52 games for England and regularly made team of the year when playing for Birmingham.

He also managed Birmingham between 1996 and 2001 where he led them to the League Cup final.
