With just over a week until the end of the transfer window, clubs at every level of the EFL are rushing to get their business complete so they can concentrate on the small matter of picking up results on the pitch.

Against this back-drop here we look at the five biggest EFL news stories of the day.....

Leeds United have had a third loan-to-buy bid rejected for Southampton striker Che Adams after the Whites offered an initial loan deal that included a £20m permanent transfer in the summer if Leeds are promoted to the Premier League, according to reports in the YEP.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is searching for a striker to replace Eddie Nketiah who has been recalled by Arsenal from his loan spell at Elland Road.

West Brom winger Matheus Pereira has been suspended for three games after accepting a charge of violent conduct for a clash with Stoke's Joe Allen, it has been reported by the Express & Star, the charge follows an alleged elbowing incident in the 35th minute of Albion's 1-0 defeat on Monday that was missed by referee Tim Robinson, but caught by video evidence.

West Brom said they "decided not to contest the charge", so Pereira will miss Saturday's FA Cup tie against West Ham, as well as league games against Cardiff and Luton.

AC Milan and Southampton have both inquired about signing Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash this month, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas on Twitter.

The 22-year-old has had an impressive campaign for Sabri Lamouchi's Championship promotion-chasing side and been watched by several other Premier League clubs.

Derby County are being linked with Doncaster Rovers' attacking midfielder Ben Whiteman, according to a report on Football Insider, with the Rams joining Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley in 'plotting' late moves to sign the 23-year-old.

Whiteman, whose contract runs to 2023, started his career at Sheffield United and had loan spells at Mansfield Town and Doncaster before joined Rovers permanently in 2018, this season he has scored five goals in 29 appearnces.

Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has been linked with a potential move for Strasbourg forward Nuno da Costa according to French newspaper L’Alsace (as cited by onefootball), the Reds are reportedly ready to spend €1.5m in order to secure the 28-year-old’s services this month.

The Cape Verdean international was in fine form last season as he helped his side qualify for the Europa League, but in the current campaign he has only managed to find the back of the net on two occasions in 20 appearances.
