The 2017/18 campaign has been a huge disappointment for Sheffield Wednesday, who have failed to build on back-to-back play-off appearances and find themselves drifting towards a mid-table finish.

Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road was one of the Owls’ more impressive victories this season, and proved to be a significant one, as it helped to pull Jos Luhukay’s side clear of a relegation fight.

Of course, injuries have plagued the Owls this season and have ultimately prevented them from challenging higher up the table, but under Luhukay, there needs to be a fresh approach during the summer.

After failing to secure promotion with this group of players, the summer seems like the perfect opportunity for a fresh start, with some big changes to be made to the playing squad.

Here at FLW, we take a look at Luhukay’s squad and identify THREE players he should be looking to move on…

Rhodes’ career is on a decline, and a move to Hillsborough has not helped the striker rediscover his best form.

Likewise, £5.4m-rated Rhodes hasn’t been the man to fire the Owls to promotion, with the 28-year-old down the pecking order.

A summer move makes sense for all parties involved, before the striker loses too much of his value.

Wallace has been a big part of the playing squad that challenged for the play-offs over the last two years, but with a fresh approach needed, he should be sacrificed.

The winger doesn’t seem to fit anywhere in Luhukay’s 3-5-2 formation and the summer seems like the perfect time to move Wallace on.

Loovens has been Wednesday’s captain during their recent success, but is entering the latter stage of his career.

Joost van Aken and Tom Lees should be the leading central defenders in the coming years at Hillsborough, with Loovens’ opportunities beginning to look slim this year with that duo returning.
