Middlesbrough have handed a new contract to Djed Spence.

The 19-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half year deal which will extend his stay until the summer of 2022.

Spence has been a revelation since bursting onto the scene in December, alerting Tottenham Hotspur to his talents.

In that time he has made 12 appearances for the club and established himself as an automatic start for Jonathan Woodgate's side.

Speaking of Spence's new deal, Woodgate told the official Middlesbrough website: "We’re delighted to get Djed tied down for a longer period.

"He has done exceptionally well since he came into the team. He earned the right, and he knows he has to keep working hard.

“We speak a lot and he knows the standards he has set, the standards we expect, and that he has to keep listening, keep working, and keep improving. Djed is a great young talent.”

The young full-back has certainly impressed since breaking into the first team fold.

We took to Wyscout.com to look over the key figures from Spence's first two months in Jonathan Woodgate's side.

Two months is a long time in football - something that Djed Spence would no doubt agree with.

Since making his Middlesbrough debut against Charlton Athletic on December 7, Spence has made 12 appearances for Jonathan Woodgate's side.

The 19-year-old has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet of late, and it's not hard to see why when you look at the numbers behind his performances.

Spence has a pass success rate of 78.4% - a decent tally for a player who looks to move possession into the final third at every opportunity.

Can you remember these former Middlesbrough strikers? Let's find out!

This is done by averaging 3.87 dribbles per game as Spence is a constant positive influence on Middlesbrough's team.

But of course he doesn't forget his defensive responsibilities.

In his 12 games so far, Spence has averaged 5.19 interceptions per game, 4.05 aerial duels won per game and a success rate of 51.5% in defensive duels - showing that he comes out on top more often than not.

If he can continue this form in the remaining two and a half years of his contract then few would bet against him being one of the best full-backs in the Championship, or even the Premier League.
