Former Sunderland and Preston North End manager Simon Grayson is reportedly interested in the vacant managerial role at Reading, according to Sky Sports News HQ (TV).

The 48-year-old has been out of work since the end of May, having departed League One side Bradford City after three months at the helm - winning three out of fourteen games as manager.

Reports have now emerged via Sky's TV sources that Grayson is interested in becoming the new manager of Championship side Reading, after Paul Clement was relieved of his duties on Thursday morning.

Grayson is mostly known for his time at Preston, where he won 104 out of 253 games as manager of the Lilywhites in a four-year stint in Lancashire.

Reading currently sit 21st in the Sky Bet Championship table after picking up four wins all season. They are outside of the relegation zone on goal difference only.

The Verdict

This isn't the sort of appointment that Reading need at all and it would divide supporters should Grayson arrive.

Grayson's last two jobs at Sunderland and Bradford have gone terribly wrong and hiring him could prove to be a massive mistake.

There are managers out there who have experience of being successful at Championship level - the likes of Steve Bruce and Slavisa Jokanovic immediately spring to mind.
