Simon Grayson has delivered his thoughts on Leeds United’s latest transfer pursuit, highlighting Barry Douglas and Matej Vydra as the type of players Marcelo Bielsa needs on board if he is to deliver promotion.

Leeds are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the Sky Bet Championship season, which begins for the Whites against Stoke City on August 5th.

Douglas, who was part of Wolves’ promotion winning squad last season, has been identified as a target, with Leeds now working to get the Scottish international on board ahead of the new season.

Vydra has been a long-term target, with Leeds now back on course to sign Derby County’s 21-goal forward after that deal hit a bump in the road earlier in the month.

Grayson, an ex-Elland Road manager, has been discussing Leeds’ transfer activity live on Sky Sports this morning (27/07/2018).

“You’re starting with Barry Douglas, who was an exceptional player last season for Wolverhampton Wanderers, and if they sign him, he will be a good addition,” said the 48-year-old.

“Vydra, again, is a very established Championship player. It is the type of players Leeds United need to try and get back to the Premier League.”

So far this summer, Bielsa has only been able to add two new faces to his squad, with Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman arriving at Elland Road on season-long loan deals from Chelsea.

The Verdict

Vydra and Douglas would be two fantastic additions to Leeds’ squad, and should they sign, they will give Bielsa’s squad a totally different look.

The duo were amongst the Championship’s best performers last season, and having them on board could help transform Leeds into promotion contenders.

Grayson hits the nail on the head – it is exactly the type of deal Leeds need to be completing.
