Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has slammed West Bromwich Albion's decision to sack Darren Moore, despite reportedly declaring an interest in the vacant managerial role at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies parted company with Moore on Saturday evening, after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich Town at the weekend.

After defeats to the likes of Leeds United and Sheffield United a couple of weeks before, the club's automatic promotion chances are now hanging by a thread, hence galvanising the club into making the decision.

Former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic and current Preston North End manager Alex Neil are believed to be high up on the club's radar to replace Moore, with Aberdeen manager McInnes also reportedly declaring an interest in the job.

But the 47-year old has slammed the club's decision to sack Moore, saying: "I’m gutted for Darren - I got a text on Saturday night and it’s more disappointment than shock now when you see managers who are friends losing their job."

"It just seems really unfair on him, to be honest".

West Brom currently sit nine points off the automatic promotion places after going three league games without  awin, and they will be eager to get back to winning ways against Swansea City on Wednesday night.

The Verdict

It's quite bizarre to see McInnes slam the club after parting company with Moore, especially after declaring an interest in the job according to reports.

I don't think McInnes has a chance of getting the job regardless of what he has said, as Slavisa Jokanovic and Alex Neil are much more experienced and perfect options for the Baggies.

McInnes has barely any experience of managing in England bar a brief spell at Bristol City, and they need an experienced head at the helm as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League.
