Blackpool crashed out of the FA Cup in disappointing fashion as they were beaten by a young Reading side at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday.

The Tangerines fell behind on 42 minutes as Lucas Boye fired home from close-range after Blackpool failed to clear their lines.

That lead was then doubled with just eight minutes remaining of the tie as Jordan Obita bundled the ball home to see Mark Bowen's side progress to the next round of the competition.

It was a frustrating night for Blackpool who couldn't take the chances that fell their way, with Reading goalkeeper Sam Walker in inspired form between the posts.

One player that put in a relatively strong performance for Simon Grayson's side though was Jay Spearing, with the midfielder playing the full game for the League One outfit.

In our latest FLW Spotlight, we look into Spearing's performance on the night against the Royals as Blackpool exited the FA Cup at the third round stage.

Spearing played the full game against Mark Bowen's side, and his experience led to him putting in a strong performance throughout the contest.

The former Bolton and Liverpool midfielder has now made 28 appearances for the Tangerines this season in all competitions, and he'll be hoping he can play part in their push up the League One table, with Blackpool currently struggling for a positive run of results.

Spearing attempted 53 passes in total during the game against Reading, and with 47 of them finding a Blackpool team-mate, it certainly makes for impressive reading.

Reading dominated the game in terms of statistics, and that's clear to see with some of Spearing's other numbers from the game on Tuesday evening.

The 31-year-old only had a single progressive run, which is somewhat understandable given that the Royals had the majority of possession on the night.

Spearing didn't complete one successful dribble in the whole game though, which is something you'd imagine he'll be disappointed with.

He also won 12 out of the 20 duels he was faced with against the young Royals team, and so there are areas for improvement off the ball, but his statistics whilst on the ball make up for some of his weaknesses in this one.
