Sheffield Wednesday have made a positive start to the new season, winning four of their opening seven matches in the Championship.

The Owls recorded a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at the weekend, ensuring that new manager Garry Monk's tenure at Hillsborough got off to the best possible start.

With a new man in charge, the players will be desperate to impress their new boss. Some players will be pleased with their early-season performances, while others may feel that they have a point to prove.

One player who will be determined to make an impact at Hillsborough this season is Jacob Murphy.

The 24-year-old joined the Owls on a season-long loan from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day and has played in every game since his arrival at the club, delivering some mixed performances.

In the latest FLW Spotlight, we take a closer look at Murphy's start to life at Hillsborough, by analysing some of his stats for Sheffield Wednesday so far this season...

Is this the WORST Sheffield Wednesday XI from the last 10 years? Let us know what YOU think...

Murphy has been involved in every game for Sheffield Wednesday since his arrival at Hillsborough and has made seven appearances for the Owls in all competitions - playing 468 minutes in total.

The pacy wideman made a fantastic start to his Owls career, scoring after just two minutes of his debut against Barnsley at Hillsborough - but that remains his only strike so far this season.

After such a promising start, Murphy will probably be slightly disappointed that he hasn't scored another goal or provided any assists yet, especially given how much time he's had on the pitch.

The winger has had a total of 15 shots on goal, but only 20% of them have been on target and this is something that he'll probably feel he needs to improve on.

His passing stats for the season are something he'll be rather pleased with though. Murphy has made 127 passes, with a pass accuracy of 66.1%.

Sometimes passing stats can be deceiving, but if we take a look at these in more detail, it shows that Murphy he likes to pass the ball forward - he's made 15 passes to the final third and 21 passes to the box.

His overall pass accuracy is a little bit lower than it should be, but that is largely down to his performance against Rotherham United in the Carabao Cup, where he only made four of his 14 attempted passes, leaving him with a pass accuracy of 29%.

Generally, his passing has been good though and he's rarely given the ball away. He'll just be hoping to turn a few of his key passes into assists.

Murphy is not afraid to get stuck in on the pitch either, but he's only won 44.1% of his duels and this is something that he needs to work on.

He's clearly very skilful on the ball though and his pace and ability to take the ball past defenders could prove very useful for Sheffield Wednesday this season.

Murphy has made 55 dribbles and just over 50% of them have been successful. He's also made 15 interceptions, 19 progressive runs and has had 14 touches in the opposition box, which you imagine he'll be pleased with.

His performances for Sheffield Wednesday so far this season have been encouraging, but he just needs to be a bit more consistent and work on his end product.

He was one of the first names on the teamsheet under caretaker boss Lee Bullen, but his performance in Monk's first game in charge at the weekend was disappointing.

It's now up to him to put the work in on the training pitch and convince Monk that he deserves to keep his place in the team, otherwise Newcastle may regret sending him out on loan.

He's a good player though and he's got plenty of experience in the Championship. If Monk can find a way to get the best out of him, he could have a big role to play for Sheffield Wednesday this season.
