Over the summer there was plenty of optimism surrounding Birmingham City, who were looking to forget their scare with relegation last season and focus on competing for a place in the top-six this year.

However, things have not worked out how many expected them to at St Andrew’s, with Birmingham struggling to make any kind on impact on the Championship and looking like they could once again be facing a battle for survival later in the season.

Now under the management of Steve Cotterill, Birmingham are once again flirting with the relegation zone, heading into this weekend’s fixtures in 21st place, just one point ahead of Burton Albion, who occupy the final place in the relegation zone.

By the time Birmingham face Aston Villa on Sunday, they could find themselves in the relegation zone, which highlights what a worrying time it is for the Blues.

Here at FLW, we believe the January transfer window will be key to turning things around at St Andrew’s, with some key additions needed. With that in mind, here is a look at TWO players we believe Cotterill should look to sign…

Josh Morris

Birmingham lack goals and creativity, a problem that we believe £450k-rated Morris would be able to solve.

The Scunthorpe midfielder has the ability to both score and create, as he has shown throughout his time with the Irons.

Last year, the 26-year-old scored 20 goals and added 19 assists across all competitions for Scunthorpe, and is continuing that magnificent form this year, with five goals and three assists from 18 appearances already.

Ethan Ampadu

Ampadu is knocking on the door of the Chelsea first-team at this current time, but the Premier League outfit might be in favour of sending the 17-year-old out on-loan to gain some first-team experience before blooding him in the top-flight.

The midfielder could be the ideal replacement for Maikel Kieftenbeld, who could be on his way out of St Andrew’s in January, whilst Ampadu also has the ability to step into defence if required, adding to the depth in Cotterill’s squad.
