Former Stoke City boss, Gary Rowett is being considered for the managerial vacancy at QPR, following Steve McClaren's sacking according to the Birmingham Mail.

McClaren was dismissed as manager of the Hoops after a dismal run of form saw his side slip into relegation contention this season at the worst possible time.

They are currently sat 17th in the Championship table and are just eight points adrift of the bottom three with seven league games remaining of the season.

QPR will be eager to appoint McClaren's successor at the earliest of opportunities as they battle to retain their Championship status for next year's campaign.

Rowett has been out of work since he was sacked as Stoke City boss in a hugely disappointing spell for the 45-year-old who has struggled in recent spells in the Championship.

He first made a name for himself in a successful time with Birmingham, but has since found it difficult at both Stoke and Derby in recent years.

It remains to be seen as to whether Rowett is considered as an immediate choice to take charge, as QPR could be tempted to let John Eustace take the reigns until the end of the season.

One thing is for certain though, in saying that whoever takes charge of the first-team, will have to hit the ground running, or QPR could easily find themselves in a relegation scrap.

They are next in action against league-leaders, Norwich City in what will be one of their toughest tests of the season so far.

The Verdict:

I don't think this would be the right appointment for QPR.

Rowett has struggled in his last two managerial spells in the Championship and I can't see him being the right man for the job in such a crucial period of the season.

QPR should steer clear of him in my opinion.
