Football League fans will know the name Jay Bothroyd.

The striker was a nomadic name in the sport having played for the likes of Coventry City, Charlton Athletic, Cardiff City and QPR amongst other, but what’s he up to now?

Bothroyd, 37, was released by QPR in the summer of 2013 and in the early days of 2014, made a bold career choice when he joined Thai Premier League side Muangthong United.

He’s since been an ever-present figure in Asian football, and after one season in Thailand he joined Jubila Iwata in Japan’s J2 League.

In his first season with Jubila he scored 20 goals from 32 games to finish the season as the league’s top-scorer, helping his team to promotion to the J1 League the same season.

Now in the highest-tier of Japanese football, Bothroyd again had another strong season with Jubila scoring 14 goals, before signing for J1 rivals Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo.

In two seasons at the club he’s scored 19 goals, last year finishing 4th in the league.

He’s had another prolific season this time round, on eight for the season so far - just last week his side lost on penalties in the YBC Levain Cup Final, after a dramatic 3-3 encounter with Kawasaki Frontale.

Sapporo have endured a tough season in J1, sitting 8th in the table with only five games of the season remaining.

At 37-years-old, the talismanic Bothroyd is still doing the job in Japan - He’s had a fantastic career which has taken him all across the world, and has faced plenty of criticism in his time.

But he's found his feet in Asia, and will likely see out an illustrious career with Sapporo.
