Aston Villa made a timely return to the Premier League as they won promotion via the Play-Offs with a narrow 2-1 win over Derby County at Wembley.

The Villans will be hoping that they can establish themselves back in the top-flight, and supporters will be keen to see their side strengthened over the summer.

In an interview with Football Insider, Noel Whelan insisted that Aston Villa will be ready for the Premier League if they can sign Tammy Abraham on a permanent deal in the summer.

"Villa will be a ready-made Premier League side if they sign Abraham. It’s no surprise they want him, but so do lots of teams.

"He might be the number one Dean Smith target but he will be the first choice target for plenty of teams trying to sign a striker."

The 44-year-old went on to outline the attributes that Abraham has in his locker, and stated that the Chelsea forward can take them to the next level ahead of next year's campaign which is certainly a possibility after he netted 26 goals this season.

"He's quick, powerful, his movement is great and he’s got a real eye for goal. He will be a real handful for Premier League defences next season.

"Villa have got a strong squad with some really talented players who will have no problem adapting to the Premier League – McGinn, Grealish – but Abraham could really elevate them."

An interesting summer awaits at Villa Park, with new arrivals likely as Dean Smith prepares for life back in the top-flight.

The Verdict:

He's spot on.

Abraham has shown that he is far too good for the Championship this season, and he's played a starring role in Villa's promotion back into the Premier League.

It'll cost a considerable amount to sign him, but it would certainly be worth it for Villa if they can pull it off.
