Nottingham Forest's disappointing run of form in the Sky Bet Championship continued on Friday night, with the Reds losing 3-0 at home to play-off chasing Millwall.

Sabri Lamouchi would have been urging his side to bounce back to winning ways after emerging as victors in only one of their last five matches, but it wasn't to be on what was a frustrating night on Trentside.

A first-half hat-trick from Matt Smith put Gary Rowett's side 3-0 up at the half-time interval, leaving Forest shellshocked and unable to ignite a miraculous response in the second-half.

The Reds struggled to get to grips with Millwall's physicality and work-rate throughout the encounter, with Rowett's men upping the tempo right from the off and getting in their opponents' faces.

Forest lost too many of their individual battles across the pitch, especially in midfield, where Ryan Woods and Jayson Molumby both impressed for the visitors.

Joao Carvalho did look bright upon his reintroduction to the starting line-up, and John Bostock also added that little bit extra when he came off the bench in the second-half.

Alfa Semedo was the player to make way for Bostock, with the Benfica loanee unable to make a real impression in the side after being given a shirt from the off.

After being taken off in his last two starting appearances for the Reds, we take a look at what's going wrong for Semedo, and why the 22-year-old is struggling to make a difference in the first-team...

It was a tough night for Forest, and the stuffing was knocked out of them after the opening 30 minutes after a remarkable display from the Lions.

Millwall's tempo and tenacity, especially in midfield, was difficult for Forest to match, with Watson and Semedo finding it hard to contain Woods, Molumby and Mason Bennett, who often drifted into the middle.

Across 47 minutes of football, Semedo won only eight out 18 duels, winning only two out of seven of those battles in the air. For a player whose physical presence is greater than most, that is a fairly poor statistic.

On the ball, Semedo was effective, accruing a total pass success rate of 82% from 28 passes in total - five of those were successfully played forward, as Forest looked to apply the pressure and look to cause problems down the flanks.

Right after half-time, Semedo was replaced by Bostock, who won every one of his aerial battles and won four out of six duels in total.

Bostock's passing was also really impressive, with the Toulouse loanee completing 35 out of 38 passes successfully, however, this was perhaps made easier by Millwall sitting back and letting Forest come at them.

Bostock, though, will be confident of keeping his place in the side after another impressive cameo off the bench, and with Tiago Silva out injured, you can't help that Semedo has wasted a big opportunity to cement a place in Lamouchi's plans.
