Leeds United made a major addition to their squad today, confirming the signing of Patrick Bamford who has joined the club from Middlesbrough.

The 24-year-old is believed to have cost around £7m and will end a summer-long search for a striker that saw the Whites linked with Abel Hernandez and Matej Vydra.

However, despite Vydra holding talks with the club earlier in the week, they have settled on Bamford, who has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road.

And, the capture of the former Chelsea youngster has gone down well, with former Leeds player Andy Couzens revealing on Twitter how pleased he was with the news:

The 43-year-old, who came through the ranks at Elland Road, reckons that Bamford is the goalscorer that Leeds had been missing.

Last season, Kemar Roofe ended up as top scorer with 11 goals, as the club failed to replace Chris Wood, who was sold to Burnley 12 months ago.

Even though Bamford only hit the same number for Boro, which included a hat-trick against Leeds, he was not a regular on Teesside.

The Verdict

You can't really disagree with Couzens' thoughts on this signing, as Bamford is a major upgrade on what Leeds currently have.

It was clear to anyone that they needed a new number nine and Bamford has the movement, technical ability and intelligence to thrive in a Marcelo Bielsa team.

He is also the third very impressive capture in the past few days following Barry Douglas and Jack Harrison, so you can understand the optimism around Elland Road now.
