Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough are interested in appointing Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer as their new manager, according to reports from TEAMtalk.

The Teesside club are still on the lookout for a new manager, having chosen not to extend the contract of manager Tony Pulis at the Riverside, having failed to win promotion to the Premier League for the second year running.

Former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has reportedly met up with the club for talks with Boro chairman Steve Gibson and head of recruitment Adrian Bevington, however there could be financial issues standing in the way of appointing the former Watford boss.

And, according to TEAMtalk, Charlton manager Lee Bowyer is on the club's radar, given the job he has done at the Valley over the last couple of seasons.

The 42-year-old has steered the London club to the play-offs for two years running, with his side set to face Sunderland in the League One play-off final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

The former Leeds manager has worked wonders to guide his side into promotion contention, given the circumstances off the pitch, and Boro could well lure him away from the Valley having failed to agree a new contract as of yet.

Boro will be hoping to make a swift appointment, as they begin to plan for life in the Championshop for yet another season.

The Verdict

I think Bowyer could be a fantastic appointment for Middlesbrough should they manage to lure him away from the Valley.

I think that if Charlton go up, then they won't be able to lure him away from the club, but if they stay down, they have every possibility of doing so.

He has proven to work well on limited resources, and could be a shrewd choice by the club.
