42-y/o expects Marcelo Bielsa to leave Leeds United if this doesn’t happen

Danny Mills believes Marcelo Bielsa will leave Leeds United, if the club do not back him with the funds to strengthen his squad in the transfer market this summer.

Bielsa took charge at Elland Road last summer, but his future at the club is now uncertain, after Leeds just missed out on promotion to the Premier League this season.

Leeds have the option to extend his contract, but Bielsa is also free to walk away if he chooses.

Football Insider reported earlier today that Bielsa is set to make a decision on his future next week, after extensive discussions with the club.

Mills believes that Bielsa will leave the club, if he is not given the proper backing to strengthen his squad in the transfer market this summer.

“I would assume it is down to transfer budgets and players. The Leeds board will know if he doesn’t get what he wants he will walk,” Mills told Football Insider.

“The owners know they can’t make promises and then not deliver because he will up sticks and walk out, as he has done at other clubs in the past.”

Mills went on to insist that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Leeds boss depart, as he feels as though Bielsa is doing the best job he possibly can.

“Marcelo Bielsa is in a stronger position than the board because he has no affinity to England or Leeds. He just wants to do the job the best he can and, if he doesn’t get the players he feels he needs, there is every chance he could leave.”

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani warned earlier this week that the club will face a difficult summer in the transfer market, after failing to win promotion to the Premier League.

Radrizzani also revealed earlier in the week that Leeds’ option to keep Bielsa at Elland Road expires at the end of the month.

The Verdict:

I think Mills could be right and this has got to be considered a major concern for Leeds.

It was a massive disappointment for Leeds to miss out on promotion this season, but it would be an even bigger blow if Bielsa was to leave the club in the summer.

The Argentine will be looking to strengthen his squad in key areas in the summer, as he looks to build a team that can win promotion next season, if the club to not back him with the funds to do that, he could well walk away.
