Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers are interested in making Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer as their new manager, according to reports from the Evening Standard.

The club are on the search for a new manager after they parted company with Steve McClaren on Monday afternoon, and could now look to raid their London rivals in search of a replacement for the former England boss.

Bowyer took the reins of the Addicks initially as caretaker manager last March, following the departure of Karl Robinson.

The former Leeds and Newcastle midfielder helped steady the ship and guide the club into the League One play-offs, where they were defeated by Shrewsbury Town.

In September, Bowyer was finally rewarded for his efforts at the Valley, and was given the job on a permanent basis after a hugely impressive tenure. The Addicks look to have already cemented their place in the top six, with the club sitting 12 points clear of 7th spot with just seven games left to play.

But reports have now surfaced claiming that the QPR board are huge admirers of Bowyer's work at Charlton, and could look to swoop with his contract expiring in the summer.

It is understood that Bowyer's ability to work with a limited budget is an attractive trait for the R's, with the club's financial position in limbo having been hit with a transfer embargo at the start of the season.

QPR sit 17th in the Championship table, after winning just one of their last 15 league games.

The Verdict

It really doesn't surprise me to see Bowyer being linked with a job in a higher division given the work he has done at Charlton.

The 42-year old is proving to be a very talented, young manager, who shows real passion on the touchline as he did when he was a player.

He has worked under tough ownership at Charlton and could be a perfect fit at Loftus Road.
