It has been revealed that Gabby Agbonlahor will end his 17-year stay with Aston Villa regardless of whether the club win promotion this season.

The local lad has enjoyed a very good career with his hometown club, scoring 75 goals in 331 appearances, and he was crucial to their success under Martin O'Neill.

That saw the striker earn international recognition, although he only ended up wining three caps for England.

Whilst the last few years haven't gone as well for the player, or the club, he will still be fondly remembered for regularly scoring against local rivals Birmingham City over the years.

The striker hit five goals in 10 games against Blues, including several winners, and only lost against the side once.

However, injuries have seriously hampered the 31-year old in recent years, with Agbonlahor only making 19 appearances in the past two seasons, so it makes sense for Villa to let the player go, particularly as he will still be one of the high earners at the club.

That could be particularly important if they don't win promotion to the Premier League as the club will have to cut costs in order to comply with FFP.

Agbonlahor has been through all the highs and lows that Villa have experienced in the past 13 years but now seems the perfect time for both him and the club to part ways.
