Henri Lansbury will be handed a chance to resurrect his Aston Villa career, with the midfielder proving to be too difficult to move on this summer.

After failing to win promotion back to the Premier League last season, Villa find themselves in a difficult financial situation, with Steve Bruce facing up to the fact that players will be sold.

According to the Mirror’s live transfer blog (18/07, 18:18), Lansbury won’t be amongst those leaving because the Championship strugglers can’t move him on this summer.

Lansbury arrived at Villa Park in January 2017 and has three years remaining on his current contract with the club, with the 27-year-old picking up a weekly wage of £40k-a-week.

With no club looking to take the midfielder on board, Bruce will hand Lansbury the football required to save his Aston Villa career.

So far during his time at Villa Park, Lansbury has made just 28 Championship appearances in 18 months.

Last season, as Villa pushed for promotion back to the Premier League, the midfielder was limited to just 10 appearances, which brought two goals and three assists.

He’s currently playing a part in Villa’s pre-season.

The Verdict

Lansbury’s wage is huge, with it unsurprising that he isn’t receiving much interest after 18 months on the sidelines.

However, when he has featured, he has impressive stats.

If the midfielder can find a consistent level of form, he could be a player that shines next season.
