With the appointment of Neil Warnock to the Cardiff City stadium this week, he will be looking to shake things up among the squad.

Warnock has been brought in for his excellent experience of the division and to motivate the deflated players at the club.

With many players underachieving this season, he will set out his plans for who he would like to keep to get them out of trouble, and who he would like to bring in during the next transfer window.

He's good at working on a tight budget and getting the right players in and the supporters will be confident in his judgement.

The Bluebirds sit second bottom of the table after two wins from 11 games and until the January transfer window opens, he will have to inject some confidence into the players.

It remains a question whether Vincent Tan will allow Warnock to spend his money, but he will certainly be looking to bring in a few players in order for the club to remain a Championship side.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies FOUR players that Warnock can’t afford to miss out on in January…

Kyle Lafferty

The Northern Irish international was heavily linked with a move to South Wales in the final days of this summer’s transfer window, however a deal never materialised and he remained at Norwich City.

If Cardiff should go in for Lafferty, Warnock’s experience and open mindedness could be key to landing a player of Kyle Lafferty’s ability.

When the Northern Irish striker is high on confidence, he can be lethal in front of goal and with only Lambert and Pilkington likely to be reliable scorers for the Bluebirds this season, Lafferty could add some much needed competition up top.

Nahki Wells

wellsssss

The Huddersfield striker has been admired by many Championship clubs for a while after becoming one of the most prolific forwards in the division last year.

Unfortunately for Wells, his pre-season was interrupted by a knee injury this summer, which gave Elias Kachunga, signed on loan from FC Ingolstadt with a view to a permanent move, a head start in the fight for the frontline berth.

Kachunga has got off to a great start to his Terriers career – leaving Wells fighting for a place. Wells has made four appearances, and while three of them have been starts, he is yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

If Wells continues to sit on the bench, then Cardiff could offer Wells an escape-route, and would certainly be the main striker at the club.

David Edwards

While watching a majority of Cardiff’s games this season, they are missing that spark in midfield. Somebody who looks to get the ball down and keep a high tempo in the game.

David Edwards would fit that description perfectly, and although he has been a key figure for Wolves this season, he could be persuaded by Neil Warnock to come to the Welsh capital.

Andy Lonergan

lonergan

Although the Bluebirds brought in Ben Amos on loan from Bolton, it is unlikely that he will continue with the number one jersey throughout the year. Amos has a mistake in him, and Warnock is a hard customer to impress.

A goalkeeper that I have been impressed with over the past few years is Andy Lonergan. He is athletic and a good shot stopper, and is very similar to former Bluebirds goalkeeper David Marshall.

The experienced goalkeeper is yet to make a league appearance this year, and has only featured in cup games.

With Cardiff’s goalkeeping problem, the arrival of Lonergan would certainly resolve that, and he would not cost the club much.
