After just missing out on a place in League One last season, Lincoln City will be looking to go one better in 2018/19.

Despite the impressive first season in the Football League, the summer has been incredibly busy with a relatively high number of players departing, four of which helped with the National League win of 2017.

Of course, they've recruited strongly and that will only serve to add to the atmosphere and hype around Sincil Bank once they kick off at Northampton in a couple of week's time.

The starting XI will be markedly different to that which ended to campaign in a semi-final defeat by Exeter, showing what a huge difference a couple of weeks can make to a squad.

It's been an enlightening summer for the Imps, here are four things we've learned about Lincoln City in the last couple of months.

Woodyard was a darling of the Cowley's, jokingly referred to as their son after moving from Concord Rangers to Braintree and later to Lincoln with his mentors.

This summer, Peterborough came knocking with the right amount of money and he was allowed to leave.

Even given how important Alex Woodyard was to the team, Michael O'Connor's arrival showed that any player in the squad can be replaced.

The Northern Ireland international was captain at League Two rivals Notts County, but he turned down a deal to sign for City.

John Akinde's record move from Barnet shocked even the most staunch Imps' fans, but it signalled the end of a search for Matt Green's partner.

Twelve months ago such a move for a big name player would have been unheard of.

Up until today, Lincoln haven't loaned a single player.

This shows Danny's ability to plan for the longer term future, relying on his own players and filling in the cracks with loan players.
