Seven points clear of third place Fulham with a game in hand, Cardiff City looked destined to return for their second spell in the Premier League.

Neil Warnock’s side have been phenomenal so far, storming ahead of the likes of Aston Villa and Fulham to secure their position as one of the league’s top two, with Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Santo sure to be growing increasingly concerned that his side could relinquish their grasp on the title to the Welsh side.

Not many gave Warnock’s men a chance in the summer but the experienced boss has inspired his side to a monumental run, with the Yorkshireman teaching the public these four things about his side so far…

Many have called for the likes of Warnock, Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce to step away from the game after years in their positions with little to no success, bellowing for a new breed of younger managers to be afforded the opportunity to prove themselves at the top of the game.

Manchester City fans branded the 69-year-old a ‘dinosaur’ following comments made in the wake of City’s FA Cup win over the Bluebirds in which Joe Bennett was criticised for a naughty tackle on winger Leroy Sane.

Warnock is a humorous boss who welcomes criticism, but his tactics this term in leading his side to the brink of the top flight has proven that the last breed of ‘dinosaurs’ are alive and thriving.

Sol Bamba and Sean Morrison have been the most effective partnership in the division this season, with the pair consistently the best players on the park.

Warnock even claimed that Bamba was better defensively than Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk following his £75 million move to Anfield and it is actually hard to argue with the manager following Bamba’s form.

If and when Cardiff go up Bamba will be afforded the opportunity to prove his manager right, with Warnock unlikely to break up this duo in the opening weeks of the new campaign.

Cardiff have performed consistently well all season, but Warnock’s work in the January transfer window must be applauded.

For some reason Nottingham Forest agreed to cancel first choice full-back Armand Traore’s contract at the club meaning the former Arsenal man could head to south Wales for nothing and the defender has shone since making the switch.

Another excellent pick up was Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic who appears to have a bright future at Anfield, with the 21-year-old one of the best players at the club having finally been handed a chance to prove himself in English football.

Warnock identified areas of need, addressing them with absolute aplomb.

The Canadian is having a remarkable season and nobody can quite work out the reason behind his wonderful form.

The player showed signs of brilliance whilst at Blackburn and QPR, but never really looked like forging a successful career in the English game due to his inconsistency.

However, Warnock has found the right formula to draw the raw talent from the tricky 27-year-old who has bagged eight goals and added a further ten assists to help his side fly up the table.

Hoilett has been one of the stars of the division so far and must be rewarded for his fine displays.

Cardiff fans, thoughts?
